Hi all. Had my X350 for a while now, and its still tops in the rotation. I thought i would swap the white pickup covers for black, but when i contacted guild, they only sell the pickups with the covers in black. As the pickups sound fine, i see no reason to replace them just for cosmetics . So i am curious if any one knows where i can get three black covers, that are easy to replace should i decide to go back to the white. I’d rather not spray paint them as i assume the paint would just flake off, and then i wouldn’t have the white ones anymore. I am also looking to get a another pickgaurd that i can put my own design on, and still have the original should i want to go back. But i dont see this pickgaurd for sale at guild either. Unless i am missing it. There are places online that make pickgaurds with images and such, but don’t see a match for this one, and didn’t want to pay to mail this one out and have someone build me one at a costs greater than my need to change the looks. Guitar is great, just like a different look.

Vinyl dye is what you want. You can get that at an auto parts store, but I doubt that any solvent based paint would flake off. As for covers, there is a guy that makes reproductions, but I can't remember his, redvenomrepros?

Hi all. I got a reply from the person suggested here to make new ones in black. The only concern is if they will fit. The ones he has maxed successfully are replacements for the 60’s guilds with franz pickups. He, and i, are uncertain if they are the same size as what’s on my x350 which is new. Anyone know? If not, i will most likely go the dye method, but would really like a set of the originals if i ever want to reverse it.

In case anybody ever wondered what a naked new Franz pickup looks like, here it is. I took the covers off and i am trying to decide what color. I like the look of the black on the red, the way it is now, but will most likely cover them up once i get the covers black. The gentleman that was mentioned here makes reproductions of the older 50’ 60’s pickup covers in black, but we are uncertain if they are a direct fit for the reissues, otherwise i would order them. So i will most likely paint or paint dye them. If i can get a pickgaurd made like the one i had with a design on it, i would go with red white and blue pickups and a star themed pickgaurd with blue background and white stars. But i cant find someone to do that. So it might stay off for a bit. As with most thick body archtops, unplugged they are not loud. But with the pick gaurd off it does project a bit more. Not quite Martin territory, but noticeable. If any one has other ideas on the paint or pickgaurd, please let me know.

I also have a guild tail piece coming in on Friday that I ordered from guild. They say its a direct fit, if it is i will try it out for a while. If i have to drill holes, it stays off. Guildsby is fun, but on this guitar i dont used it as much, and if i an reduce the weight a tad i will.

Any idea if the older pickups have the sane size covers as the new?
It might be about the pole piece spacing. Wasn't there a neck and bridge pickup version with different pole piece spacing? Do all 3 pickups on the Newark St. model have the same pole piece spacing? Means does the neck cover fit the bridge pickup? You could always make a drawing and send it to the guy who makes the repros.

I like the black. Sadly the tail piece is not a direct swap, so it goes back to guild. Still unsure about the pickgaurd. Working on it.
