In my quest for presence and clear, articulate tone, I found 1MEG volume pots with new neck BS-1 Bisonic on my Starfire II and a new neck Toaster in my Ric bass got them as much brightness and presence than I could ever want! Success!!
But, pulling out my trusty Gibson after many months, it was no longer the title holder on clarity when compared to the others.
So (now knowing Bisonics and Toasters are tops at presence when used with a 1MEG vpot) I thought a Bisonic would look best on the Gibson. I did the Bisonic and a new harness with 1MEG volume and it is just as present, clear, and articulate as the Guild and the Ric now. The Gibson and the Guild sound a lot alike. The Gibson is sorta like a smaller Starfire but with a solid body.
I had to rout a little deeper on one side inside the Gibson pup pocket, trim the pickguard opening on one edge a smidge, and sand the Bisonic black plastic mounting ring level to get the pup to fit the Gibson.
Pics show the bass and harness as I was doing it. Homemade no load 500k tone pot.
I also like Bisonics cuz they make for great thumb rests while playing.
Pickup sits about 5/32 from bottom of strings. I lowered the pole pieces a couple more 32nds since Bisonics are so hot. Sounds great! Praise the Lord it worked out great!
