For my 50th birthday I bought myself a Martin Custom Shop D-15SM. I picked it up at the Martin factory and got to pose with Dave Doll which was fun. I need to decide on what to get for my 60th birthday. If I go Guild, maybe a D-55 even though it doesn't fit my 12-fret dread paradigm. But it is one of the most beautiful guitars and I have wanted one from "the beginning". An F-47 or F-48 would be a slam dunk, but those aren't made anymore. I still have some time to think about it.

The only Guild acoustics I like more than my D55 are my DV72s, but I feel like they’re TOO special. The D55 is just a perfect blend of bling and substance. The DVs have a more refined tone.

If a 12 fret neck on a dreadnought is important to you, you could check out an Orpheum 12 fret slope sholder...Definitely worthy of a big birthday.

Oh, thanks for the best wishes, but that pic was 10 years ago. This year I get to find a special acoustic. I'm leaning toward the D-55. The lowly Madeira you see in my avatar was only a placeholder until I could get a "real" Guild and the D-55 was the holy grail for me when I first started playing. Maybe it's time. :)

I will offer my, lowly, piece of advice - buy that D55.

You are five years late for the D55. Buy a 50th. Go big or go home. :)

I will wait for the Guild 75th anniversary model in 2028, though I'll be 81 by then! o_O I wonder what tone woods they'll use?

I turn 55 next year...so thinking D55 :)

Although I do recall when an LTGer hits 10k posts, he gets a D55....so I can just wait for that too.

(oh come on, that joke is still funny...)
