The good news:

The beautiful Bluesbird I got from dapmdave arrived from Florida Wednesday. The guitar looks and plays wonderfully, Dave was a pleasure to deal with, and the guitar was packed very well. Could not have done better for my first Guild electric. A keeper for sure.

The bad news:

My pal Rich stopped over Friday after work with his most excellent vintage Fender Super Champ to check out the Bird. As I was out of coffee, we ran over to the local convenience for a cup. On the way a drunk ran over us. Rich broke his arm, his Jeep was totaled and his amp was destroyed. I got a bruise the size of my hand on the right thigh, dislocated the middle finger and sprained the ring finger on my left hand.

At least I have a short scale electric to play when my fingers feel better. Rich's fracture was fairly minor, we should both be playing guitar in about a week. Insurance will cover everything, including the amp.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the Bluesbird.

Oh, man. I'm glad to hear you were'nt seriously injured. I hope they put the guy who hit you under the jail for a long time. :x

Sounds like you'll be back to pickin' and grinnin' pretty soon, though.

It looks like the guitar got through just fine. :)

Wow, somebody really didn't like you going electric! ;)

Seriously, glad the two of you are alright. Heal up fast!

The guy who hit us has a big problem. His BAC was over 3 times the legal limit, he had a bag of coke and a loaded pistol in his truck, and three outstanding warrants. Oh, did I mention Rich's uncle is a lawyer.

My guitar was safe at home, the amp was in the Jeep, because my car was in the garage, Rich came to the door thinking I wasn't home.

That sucks, Doc. I hope both you and Rich have a speedy recovery. Perhaps making it more tolerable will be looking at that absolutely gorgeous Bluesbird.

What a scary episode... sorry to hear that and hope you both heal your bones nice and fast.
Bird is the word indeed and the more you will play it the more you will realize what a keeper it is!
It seems in tip top shape, not surprisingly knowing where it comes from.

I'm glad it wasn't worse that it was. Beautiful bird BTW! And the Champ is toast?

The Champ was disintegrated. It was strapped to the roll bar, right at the point of impact. The knobs are all that's worth saving.

We'll be fine, just real sore for a bit.

Hope the recovery is quick and complication-free.

And the drunk goes to jail for a long, long time.

HI Doc: Too bad it had to be you guys, maybe God guided you there so that guy wouldn't take out some innocent mother and her kids 2 blocks farther down the road.
I noticed Cap'nJuan mentions he's got a EL-84 driven Vibro Champ that's "one of Coastie's scratch built projects that he lost interest in", maybe that'd be a good candidate to replace the casualty?

Well, I made it through a day of work. Had to do small jobs, but I'm feeling better. Swelling is going down, fingers are starting to bend. My job is pretty geezer-friendly, the average age in our shop is close to 50.

The arresting officer stopped by for a follow up an hour ago, he indicated the guy who hit us is in real deep doo-doo. This will be his 5th DUI and 3rd felony drug charge.

Don't know about divine intervention, but yeah I had similar thoughts.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

OMG, Doctor S.!!! Sorry to hear of your injuries and here's wishing you a rapid recovery.

There must be balance in the Universe and perhaps that lovely guitar will help distract you from your injuries.

Best Wishes to you Dr. Spivey.

I do believe in some kind of supreme being but I actually think "He" leaves it up to us to "do the right thing"...I don't think "God" manipulates things in the simplistic way some folks claim and at the same time I know I've personally experienced a couple of miracles that go far beyond the possiblities of chance. I guess I was just trying to say that hopefully somehow your decision to go to the store at that specific time had beneficial consequences somewhere in spite of the damages. It always takes a while for ALL the consequences of our actions to be seen. I'm sure this'll have some kind of happy unforeseen consequence for you. AND your buddy.
Like, I just remembered, if my Fender hadn't been stolen I might never have discovered my D25!
