I would say if you are going to add a Bigsby make it a Guild bigsby. A S90 with a well installed Guild bigsby would look pretty cool and would not degrade the value of the guitar. The S90 is a lower priced instrument unlikly to be greatly effected in value from the addition of a bigsby. I would not install a bigsby on a S100 "acorn" model as that would significantly reduce the value but a S90 is not in that class. The biggest aestitic problem you will have is related to the closely mounted diagonal stop. It is difficult to hide the holes. It is easier to hide the holes on the earlier models where the stops that are farther away from the bridge. I have done a mod to a S70 and someday I plan to make a little cover plate from old pickguard material to hide these holes.

If I had a S90 I would seriously consider making it into a S90 "deluxe". I think that would be a pretty cool guitar. I would also probably alter the wiring to provide independent control of each pickup.

Here is an example of a S70 mod. I installed a NOS set of Guild S100 Deluxe Guild Bigsby and tension roller assembly to a S70. You can still pick up these parts on ebay from time to time. I would wait until they come up and then snag them for your project.

Another version of a Guild bigsby modification can be done by using "LP" stop as shown in the bottom picture. In that case I installed a 1980 model Guild stop.

I just broke the "coveting thy neighbor's goods" commandment and it's Hammer's fault! I hope he doesn't mind if I have erotic dreams about it.

He knows what he's doing to us. Notice it's the only git on the list with it's own direct link?

If I could ever locate those two pieces I would definitely do it.
As long as I don't have to sell the guitar to afford the stuff.

I'm a fan of the dark green too.

If you haven't seen Hammer's '94 S-100, this is the definition of JEALOUSY for me.

You can dream, but no touching! And that DeArmond on eBay is the bolt-on model.

Historically the modified Guild bigsbys like I showed are very affordable. They typically cost only between $50 and $70! The tension roller is a little harder to find but I have seen the bigsby and roller sets sell for less than $100.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the heads up on this.

In the end I decided to leave the S-90 stock.
I'll probably pick up something else to upgrade.

That would look quite nice on that red 70 of mine. An S-100 deluxe has always appealed to me.
