Mea culpa! My English is not that accurate! I certainly do not want to offend the (guitar-)bass players community. Our (double)bass player is the one who can read music and knows in what key we are.He only drinks water and drives us safely home we get...tired.Soooo, here are my apologies to all bass players:

. . . . "6, 7, 8, and 12 string guitar". Bass players on LTG are sometimes known to take great delight in providing counter-examples to a general statement about guitars that noting that the statement does not apply to basses.

Yeah. I have seen 8 and 12 string basses and tried to play an 8. But since I already have a reputation for a certain type of post I was trying not to list everything that might distinguish a "guitar" from a "bass guitar". 5 and 6 string basses are mainstream enough that I was wrong to begin with and there are baritone guitars and some higher pitched 4 strings that have more in common with "guitar" than "bass".

Since German has a reputation, with non-speakers, of having a word for everything I wonder if there are German words for guitar and bass guitar that acknowledge that compared to the violin family they are both "guitars", but there are differences between them?

Ach - das is sehr interessat - leider hab' ich kein Antwort, weil ich Finne bin. 😂

But in Finlanf we who speak finnish - bass is the word for all stringed bass instruments - double bass aka as contra bass or bass violin - electric or acoustic bass - we do, however, use regurarly the word bassguitar for both latter. May be because they are hung w a strap around players neck instead of standing on the floor.
