Yes, absolutely this!! The pain meds will make a huge difference in your recovery and rehab. I've known a couple of people who tried to be heroic and it didn't work out for them AT ALL!! It'll still hurt some, but being able to move and build your activity will help more than anything. Take the meds and get moving.Absolutely this. When I got home from shoulder surgery I felt fine so figured I wouldn't take the drugs unless I needed them. I woke up screaming at 3am when the nerve block wore off. I'll never do that again!
I had my first hip replacement after my knee replacement on the same side 8 months earlier. I thought, here we go again! But the day of surgery, in the afternoon, they had me up and about in my room. Then the next day, I got out in the hallway and went to the end and back before they'd let me go home. That's a huge motivator right there, home to my own bed and quiet!!
Also, the hip was a whole lot easier than the knee. I went to my 2 week post op visit and the doc said, "Where's your walker?" Out in the truck. "Where's your cane?" Also, in the truck. So he told me to get up and walk down the hallway and back. Then he said, "You're doing so well, PT must be doing you a world of good!" and I had to tell him that they were backed up and I couldn't go until the following week. So he asked if I wanted to go, and I said not really. So he said, "Then don't go." And I didn't, even with the other hip. The knees were a different story. PT was rough. But still not as bad as shoulders. Those are awful, I hear!! I'm sure GAD will concur.
