Hi all

Am a newbie to this group so just saying hello from me and my guitar.

My first proper guitar - A Guild Starfire V - serial 30138 - At the time I'd never heard of Guild and still chose it over a Strat?

It'sa cherry red approx 1963 and I bought it around 1967/8 can't remember exactly, but its been in my possession ever since, obviously its a little battle worn in places, though the bigger dings occured with a previous owner. The bindings have "ivoried", (sounds so much better than yellowed) and the neck is still as straight as a die though the back of the neck has hads the paint worn through by my sweaty mits Everything on it is original and it still works.

I play any style I can, but as a student, I'm always ready to steal tips from anybody.

Probably not new to you but I came across Justin Hayward /Moody Blues utube clip playing an S5.

Hey Gudjun.

Welcome, and greetings from Newsyland. Nice to have another kipper-gobbler to keep Jerry company.

Didn't realise that J.H. had ever played a Starfire; seemed like a confirmed 335 man.

Pictures please !!

Hello gudjun,

Welcome! Did a quick search in my database and found the following about your Guild Starfire V with serial # 30138:

It was part of a medium sized batch of Sunburst and Cherry finished guitars. Your guitar was finished in 'final assembly' on Friday April 17th, 1964 so that was the day your guitar made it's first musical sounds.

Since this was kind of a transition period as far as the hardware was concerned, I'm very curious what parts ended up on your Starfire V. Can you show us a photo?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi All

Thanks for the words of welcome, much appreciated.

Thanks for the research notes Its nice to know my guitars birthday, see below about photos.

I have no photos of the starfire at present but I'll correct that in a few days time. I did have a couple of photos of me using it to make noises from my playing (Gigging) days but thankfully the've disappeared.

Comment: You are of course dead right about JH being a 335 man but I have seen him with what appeared to be sunburst strat at a gig. And the video I mentioned was pretty poor quality, but I thought that what he had was larger bodied than a gibson, with jack coming out of the side and what I took to be chesterfield logo may have been a trick of the light. But whatever it was won't change my mind about the Moodies as they were always (I'm not ashamed to say) one of my most favourite bands, along with the Pink Floyd, Stones and that lot from Liverpool, but then that was the ere I was brought up in. In fact there were so many good bands I wouldn't no where to end my list.

Regards to All

Welcome gudjun: another UK'ite? Soon we'll have enough for a band! Maybe mgmt will open a Kipper Korner where you all can commiserate about traffic, taxes, and say rude things to your ancestral Broz accross the channel!!

Howdy!

Very nice example of an early Starfire V with the neck joint at the 16th fret.

And slag your (in)glorious first eleven.

Lament your woeful first fifteen.

Discuss the merits of various mushy peas.

Discuss which sheep breeds make the best lovers. Jerry will have a point-of-vewe on that one.

Post pics. of your holidays at Scungethorpe-On-Sea.

Post "now" pics. of Miss Traction-Engine, 1963.

Report on the Knotted-Hanky-On The-Head Convention.

Kipper Korner Winning idea, Cap'n.
