Banjos are so embarrassing

Nah, ya just gotta get used to them. When you do, you notice that they are missing, especially in "old time/Appalachian" music.

(When I bring our cat to the vet, or to my daughter's house an hour away, if I play banjo-based music I don't here a sound from him,
but if I play some old time/bluegrass without banjo he starts yowling like a banshee!) I have created a monster!

I got my wife a Gold Tone banjitar for Christmas and she has been playing it in our band. Really fills some holes. We do old time, bluegrass, folk grass in our own unique way.

so many rock guys I've jammed with in the past have paused and said, "Oh, you have a banjo?" with a tone of disappointment and disapproval until they realized it is a guitar neck on a banjo body, and then they'd goof around on it for hours

I used to have a beautiful 1929 Slingerland Maybell tenor banjo that I used for the rare and occasional Dixieland gig. It was pretty appropriate in that setting. I think banjo is pretty cool, especially for bluegrass. I've never understood the hate.

Got immersed in bluegrass during the revival of the ’70s. Went to festivals, took banjo lessons, saw Bill Monroe in a very small venue, etc. There was also a mid ‘60s rock phase, blues phase, country/folk/rock phase, big-band phase, & swing-jazz phase. Still enjoy them all, in varying & highly selective doses.

I think my wife bought me the banjo hanging on the wall. I never did learn Foggy Mountain, like Steve Martin played.
