Dear LTGers, I just installed Thomastik "Jazz Bepop" .012 -- .050 strings on my 2001 Guild Artist Award Benedetto, and I have to say that it is by far a pleasure to play. What definition and creamy sound they produce. And they are easy to riff on without much pressure.

I love the quote in the ad for these strings on Musician's Friend:

"Jazz guitar playing is a highly developed art form that requires musical discipline, imagination, humility, and good strings."

Can't argue with that!

I've never tried any of the TI roundwounds. I do like the Jazz Swing flats, though. Assuming you've used both, Rich, how would you judge 'em against each other?

@Rich Cohen is your assessment of the sound for when you play the AA acoustically or plugged in? I'm still searching for the right strings for my AA for the "best" acoustic sound. And the right strings could very well be flatwounds.

In my '80s AA, the TI flatwounds blew me away, and I've never liked flatwounds. I don't even have the words to describe how good it sounded. That's acoustically BTW. The pickup on my AA is not great.

I just installed Thomastik Infeld "Jazz BeBop", catalog # 112 strings (.012 - .050). Plays well acoustically, and dreamy through the Rivera jazz amp. I'll post a comparison of the AA and A-500 soon. The X-700 is, of course, a different sort of axe, and more versatile sonically.

Dave,
I'll post a comparison of the A-500 and AA soon. Right now, on the A-500, I have Newtone Strings which are quite different than the TI's on the AA. The Newtone strings are called "Masterclass" and labelled as acoustic guitar strings double wound, phos. pronze with a round core, .012 - 0.54. They produce a clear acoustic resonance on the A-500, but a bit too nazal for my liking. Before I do the comparison, looks like I'll have to install the TI Jazz BeBop string on the A-500 to get the right sort of results. Before doing that, I have to say that though both the AA and A-500 are designed to be acoustic axes, they produce wonderful amplified sounds with their respective pups (DeArmond 1100 on the A-500 and Benedetto floating pup on the AA). We'll see how they shake out with I get things equalized.
