This one arrived today, and despite the substitution of a Dimarzio humbucker for the singe Franz pickup, the guitar is a joy and delight to play. It’s been in threads before and Hans knew the number by memory! Original case. Appears to be a Vinny Roberts ‘57 special order with the single neck pickup.
It looks as if the Dimarzio is sitting loose in the cavity. I have a lovely HB1 neck pickup that I’m going to try for fit until I can find a Franz, but in the meantime , a wonderful guitar to pick up.. fast under the fingers so I won’t bother with a pick, and lovely resonance acoustically, good for late night… like now!

Yes it is… hard to see in nighttime pics, although the Kluson tuners show it clearly! The tailpiece has faded a bit but was gold to start.

Just an update on the Aristocrat… it needed a little work (volume pot unreliable) and we looked at replacing the aftermarket Dimarzio with an HB1 that I happened to have. No Go! The HB1 was too deep. So the guitar has had a new pot, other one serviced, fresh set up, and the pickup reseated in a more stable position.
Plays beautifully and sounds great… it is such a lovely little guitar!

Maybe, but he doesn't seem NYC based. Most of the period Guild endorsers were a stone's throw from Manhattan, with the notable exceptions of Duane Eddy and Bert Weedon.

And that used DP103BC (PAF 36th Anniversary, Neck, Zebra Black/Cream) seems to be a good pickup.
