The one I was responding to seemed to be an unwarranted slam on Gretsch.
Not a slam at all on Gretsch guitars. When I think of Gretsch guitars, I think of Chet Atkins and a made in USA product. It's not that way anymore, I wasn't aware of that, till a couple of years ago. Not quite right about the nephew.
I'm a snowbird on coastal GA during the winter. I have stopped in the Rest Area / Information Centers off of I-95, in Savannah and St. Mary's, on the FL border. They have a display there touting GA companies providing jobs for GA people. Great I thought. Of course I was drawn to the guitar display as I saw it was a entry level Gretsch. Then I looked at the labels at both places, made in Indonesia.
So, I asked the lady in charge of the Info Center. She said she was aware that the guitars were foreign made and not in Savannah. She did say there sales office was located there, probably two full time people. So I guess they don't really bring jobs to GA people; no answer just a smile.
Coincidentally, several months later, I went to a small Richard Smith concert in Savannah. Richard introduced Fred Gretsch and his wife in the audience. At intermission went up to get a bottle of water and Fred was right behind me in line. Said hello and left it at that. Fred's looking at 80 in the rear view mirror and didn't want to ask him about GA jobs etc. and spoil his night.
Now you know the story.
