Hello folks,

Have a question for somebody who grew up in the London area during the sixties and who is old enough to have frequented the London music stores around 1965. That means that you should probably be older than 60 to be able to answer my question.

Anyone here?

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

There are some senior Brits on the Gretsch Pages . . . perhaps one of them could assist you?

Have you tried NAMM? They've been around longer than that...

Also, if it's that picture you've posted before, have you tried sending it to the British/UK music trade publications, the names of which I can't recall at the moment...already gave away my copies from last year's NAMM...sorry.

edit: 'the Music Trades' is one of them

Thanks! Yes, I posted that photo before, but I did not get a proper answer so I'm trying again. No I didn't try any of the music trade publications because I would think that those people would not visit stores on a regular basis. I did try several big distributors from the U.K. who had salesmen on the road during that time. The trouble is that if they were around in 1965, they would have been at least 20 years old. That means they are way past their retirement age now, so they're not working there anymore. That's why I'm shooting for people who were at least something like 16 years old ( an age during which you might have visited a music store to buy something) and those people are past 60 now. I'm one of those and I would recognize all the big music stores in the various cities in the Netherlands. Didn't visit the London stores at the time.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Actually, the trade publications do visit a lot of the stores, and feature them over the years...there might be something in their archives. The readership is mainly persons in the industry...including retailers...many of a 'certain age' at this time......many of whom may have gotten their starts as starry eyed teenagers hanging out in stores...retired or not' they tend to keep up with the industry...and may very well recognize the store in your photo.

http://www.musictrades.com/ has been publishing since 1890...no, it's not a typo.

http://www.musictrades.com/back_issues.html they have an online archive.

http://www.musictrades.com/contact.html they have a number of contacts.

They'll be distributing issues in January at NAMM...several hundred thousand music trade people attend.

You could also try: library@namm.org They have over a century of records/archives...one category is 'retail history'.

Maybe they'll publish your photo/request in print and/or online...and somebody just might recognize it...heck, Ringo Starr just had an old photo of his identified...the internet is a powerful tool...actually, that's another idea...even tho he's not the one in the photo...doesn't mean he wasn't there...and may recognize the store.

Obviously? I must be mentally challenged since it's not obvious to me. I'll just go sit on the sidelines and let you do all the heavy work.
