Sorry to hear about the tinnitus Mikey. I've had it too for almost 20 years. I blame it on concerts and the especially loud band I used to play bass in. My god that drummer was loud, and we practiced in a small basement. I did usually wear earplugs, but the damage was done. I do think it will get better for you as you get used to it, as crappy as it is. Good luck. I also received the 2 moderna shots without bad effects eccept for a sore arm after the first one. Edit: I also have a strange bite problem that makes it worse too since it puts pressure on my jaw joints.

I developed Tinnitus two weeks ago just after my Covid vaccine (which I now regret getting) and it is driving me crazy. I finally go see an ENT specialist today but from what I’ve been reading am not hopeful. Any suggestions on what to ask and all advice is welcome.

I can ignore it somewhat during the day when in conversations or when the TV or music is on. I can’t sit quietly - there is no “quiet” any longer. Just a high pitch siren in my head.

Trying to sleep is the worst. Absolute hell. I dread going to bed. I have a white noise machine going, pretty loudly and it helps a little. But even with OTC sleeping pills I can only manage maybe 2-3 hours of restless sleep. Two weeks of this is beginning to take it’s toll.
Héy Mickey, this is really shit man. I suffer from tinnitus too.... started about 20 years ago . I know what you are feeling now. The first weeks months were terrible...... it’s 20 years now and the noise is still there. I learned myself to ignore by doing things..... now writing this to you makes the noise about 10 times louder.... there is still no cure (there are therapies) . but. Don’t give up , you can live with tinnitu!

But if you really think it’s the vaccine that’s did it... maybe it will go away after a few weeks?
take care ! Okko

I think you’re story fits in with my experience... except for the earplugs (I should have known then) the vaccine:. Got Astra Zeneca (first shot) with no problems at all.

By any chance did you take aspirin or aspirin related meds for your headache?
A known trigger.

Whatever...there is no treatment or cure...sorry...and you will get used to it...eventually...perhaps having soft music playing quietly at night will distract your brain for a bit until then.
No, based on what I had read prepping for the test I intentionally did not take any ant-inflammatory meds or herbs, or any anti-histamines a few days before and two weeks after the shot. I did take a pseudoephedrine on the second day of the headache. It was a long couple of days.

The sucky thing is that intentionally avoided the Phizer and Moderna shots because they had a lot more reports of serious side effects, including tinnitus, than the J&J. When a slot opened for this one I drove half way across the State to get it. Murphy’s Law.

...Odd thing is I think it affect men/women differently.... So the difference between them is possibly that she has a much more active immune system than his....

I asked a doctor about this. "Do these differing reactions to the vaccine indicate anything about how well one's immune system is prepped against the virus?" The answer was NO, and the following link to an article in Nature was given.

Interesting article. I'd like to see the research repeated to include the new class of mRNA vaccines represented by the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. They appeared after the publication date of the article.

I have seen numerous claims and anecdotes trying to predict and explain who had side effects to vaccination and who didn't. What people loose sight of is that roughly 70% of the vaccinated population reported no side effects whatsoever. So whatever caused the side effects it was only a factor for 30% of the population.

I also note that much of the data is coming from the experience of First World countries which in many ways are not representative of the world at large

We should also remember that statistics are notoriously hard to apply to individual people. If there is a 99% chance of something happening and it doesn't happen to me does that mean the statistics are wrong or that I am merely a member of the 1%?

The best way for me not to hear tinnitus is the sounds of nature, wind blowing through trees, a creek running through the backyard, birds, the hum of nature.

I suppose in the city, you get the same effect from cars, trucks, buses, planes, trains, etc.

Even sitting at the computer, its always there, but I have to consciously listen for it to hear it, and it gets stronger as you keep listening, it gets a little rhythmic, like crickets in summer.

I'll be 59 in June. Grew up going to drag/circle track races, mowing lawns, loud concerts, playing way too loud in bands...all without ear protection. By the time I wised up, my ears rang like the bells of St. Mary's. Still do.

Audiologist told me last year to plan on hearing aids when I'm 60.

About all I can say about the tinnitus is you'll get used to it, Mikey.

Sorry you have to deal with it...

Yeah, I have it. I compare it in a way to the floaters in the eyes I have -- sometimes I can't see anything but those things and sometimes I don't know they are there... but if you ask me about it, I see every one of them instantly.

So, like everyone else is saying, it will get less noticeable. It also sucks, and I hate it. Everyone who has it reports slightly different symptoms. Some have it worse than others.

I've tried a bunch of things. Ear drops just made my ears itch. Warm wet cotton gauze put on the ear and then put sound cancelling headphones on over that was an interesting remedy. Leave on until warm temp goes to room temp. IDK if it helped or not. At first I think it did. But now, I don't think its worth the prep time it takes.

I also tried some weird exercise where you pulled the earlobe down in rapid pulls... I want to say for like a 60 count. Not sure. I felt like an idiot doing it -- I thought: "I'm on candid camera right now, and the NSA guy watching me through my laptop camera is laughing his butt off..." So stopped that as well.

There are a lot of exercises you can find online. Try them. Other than feeling a bit silly, what harm is there? There are also plenty of snake oil salesmen out there offering solutions "Guaranteed to stop it!" -- but I doubt any of them are real.

Every once in a while, I hear a sound like Cicadas chirping. But it's rare and doesn't ;last long.

Definitely from the vaccine. Never had it or any hearing loss before. I had a bad headache for two days after the shot. When that ended I got the Tinnitus that I thought would go away after a couple days, but it has not. In my Google search I’m finding 1000’s if not tens of 1000’s of people reporting the same. Though my primary Doc claims he is/was unaware.
Thank you for posting. Mine is a symptom of Meniere's Disease and have lived with it for about 6 years now, but pretty mild and never unbearable. Finally controlled through low-sodium diet with diuretic (HCTZ).

What was unbearable were some of the vertigo attacks. Caused by excessive high pressure in inner ear, especially an imbalance which sends false imbalance signals to the brain. High pressure also takes its toll on cilai, resulting in hearing loss.

SO my advice is to pursue the issue if you can. Your causes may be different, but the hearing you save may be your own.

But what I really wanted to thank you for is that I haven't been vaccinated yet (appointment availability issues), and while I had no qualms about it, now I think I need to investigate the issue due to my own pre-existing "weakness".

Yeah, I think that was one of my earliest evidences too, before real "singing" started occurring: I used to hear it specifically during some commercials like a microwave oven's beep.

So weird I actually posted here about it, thought it was a new subliminal attention-grabbing technique being employed. Now think it may be an artifact of certain combinations of frequencies being processing through damaged cilia.

Thanks, Al!!! Now I know "I AM NOT ALONE". I have experienced a medley of different sounds over the years. Sometimes, more than one at the same time.

I still can't quite come to terms with the occasional "ANGEL CHOIRS" though????

Does anyone not have tinnitus?? In my case , it was probably years of big amps in small rooms. Also after quitting my 2nd job to go travelling, when I came back I had to buy my first car after years of company cars. Bought an old cheapie which had a lot of road noise. Fixed that by putting in a loud car stereo system to mask the road noise...

I find I don't notice it as much when I'm on holidays and super relaxed. I guess there'll be no respite from it for the the next year or two...

Daytime is somewhat manageable. I have white noise on at my desk all day and I’m ok while talking or the TV or music is playing. Trying to sleep is a big problem. It’s deafening even with white noise.

I got a script for Trazosone which I guess is a antidepressant that helps with sleep. It semi works. I’m getting about 4 hours a night. Got a script for Prednizone to see if that helps with any possible inflammation that is causing the problem.

Joined TimnitusTalk forum to research other things that might offer some relief. Ordered some earphones and some noise therapy stuff. Like I said, grasping at straws.

Played guitar a little bit last night for the first time in weeks. Expecting my GV70 back from Tom Jacobs this week. That should get me going.
