Trust me, Mike, as time goes by you get better and better at ignoring it and putting it in the background but in the beginning it seems like your world is flooded with noise that you'll never be able to ignore or control. And as I mentioned, the only time it really bothers me is when I'm reading this thread. I've gotten really good at ignoring it and giving it the attention it deserves, which is NONE!! So take heart, this will get better!!(y)

Thanks for the positive outlook. Right now the sleep deprivation has me all messed up. If I can catch up a bit maybe I can get a better grip on what appears to be my new normal.

Maybe I should change the title to “Tinnitus Trigger Warning” :)

What helps me is doing sport... it’s not giving relief on the tinnitus direct, but! It helps me being stronger on physical and mental aspects of my life. That’s a kind of resilience that’s helps me sleep, being less irritating for myself and my social context .... I have a bike ( yes i’am dutch!so what. At least I do it without wearing wooden shoes😂) try to ride it at least three times a week. - doesn’t work right now because I had an accident a few weeks a go and broke my collarbone. And since I don‘t ride my bike now, the tinnitus is more irritating .....

I did that, too, years ago. Everyone said "why didn't roll when you hit the ground instead of sticking your arm out?". Huh, thanks, I wish I thought of that at the time...

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Yeah I had about 1 second before riding into an scooter that rode in the wrong direction... my thoughts: oh oh this is wrong.... of course I should have thought: ‘ oh well that’s a scooter, a it’s a grey scooter, not the nicest color, but anyway....ah I guess i’am gonna hit it... wow wonder in what direction I will fall, let’s make some scenarios and figure out what‘s the best way to roll... ‘. Will do that next time.. love good advice 😂especially afterwards

A couple of weeks ago, before this thread ever started, I noticed one morning that the ringing was gone! Did not hear any. Covered my ears. Nothing. My hearing in general was way better. It was like my ears had "popped" and ringing was gone, hearing was clear. To say the least I was thrilled and hoping it was fixed for good.

But it was all back to the usual by that evening.

Why the short reprieve? I sure wish I knew. Something I did or didn't do, eat, drink? I have no clue, and again sure wish I did because I would do or not do it again.

It was nice to be "normal", even if only for a day. I had forgotten what that was like.

My ringing has been on for decades - but like you say - every now and then it goes away for some time - in my case prhaps for few hours at most . . .

I always though my tinnitus was special, like I can stuff other people can't, and besides, I do love the summertime rhythmic chirp of crickets.

Ever had a cricket in your house?

It would drive wife batsh*t crazy, me, I'm just sitting in a chair, on the internet, like "what?" lololol.

Hunting for a cricket is the worst with tinnitus, because it sounds like it's everywhere.

At 70 years old next month, I thankfully still don’t have tinnitus - even after spending a lot of time in my younger days around fairly loud music & motorcycles. Perhaps one thing that helped is that I’ve never ever liked listening to music through headphones.

But regarding sleep, I rely heavily on a white noise device. It can’t be nature sounds with a loop, because I’ll start focusing on the darn loop! It has to strictly be a flat white noise, and I turn it up pretty loud. Again thankfully, that does the trick.

I can’t remember never having it, many concussions as a youth & sports. Been to specialist a few times with no success. I have hearing aids that they thought would help but they didn’t but I can hear better. Funny thing is with the aids I can’t wear them when playing guitar, it doesn’t sound right & I guess it’s a common thing with all the frequencies the doc said, lots of adjustments to no avail...I sleep with a radio two feet away from my head low volume and it really helps, talk radio...red eye.
If you dwell on it it will drive you in completely crazy so learn to live with it & ignore it. It’s hard but possible to a degree...good luck, hang in there, there’s worse things you could be dealing with...that’s what I tell myself.

I added a second noise machine last night. i was so excited that one of the sounds (brook) seemed to have the right frequencies to lessen the sound. That was until 5 minutes in when I discovered the loop every 8 seconds. Could not stop listening for it and then it started driving me nuts. I will move it downstairs to add to my daytime noise. Zero sleep again last night I think due in part to the Prednisone I’m taking in the AM.

I can't sleep either due to really severe sciatica, it's wearing on me. I can't get to sleep, and I can't lay in bed in morning. Luckily sitting in a chair is ok and I can come here.

LTG is like therapy for me.

I have the radio at such a level I can barely make out what their saying, that's the key... it's low...and it needs to be close enough to turn it down or up without moving much or getting up, no light...just reach over and adjust...It really takes my mind off the ringing trying to hear what their saying...next thing I know it's 6:00am. Don't work every tine but most of the time. Sounds crazy I know but,,, Give it a shot, can't hurt...
