Hi folks,
I signed up here after reading a thread on the elusive 4-40 pan head mounting screw for vintage Guild pickups.
I actually did buy a box from McMaster-Carr and they are too big!
I tried them on 2 examples of 60`s pickups and they will start and jam up after a 1'4 turn as they are too thick.
What gives?
Are the 70's HB-1 4-40 and the 60's Anti Hum smaller?
Did they send me the wrong screws?
HEEEEEELP!!!
thanks

Yes, I believe they are a tiny bit thinner for the little humbucker. The screws we had discussed were for the HB-1 pickups which started in the early 70's. I believe the little humbuckers used the standard humbucker sized screws of #3-48 (2.515 mm diameter), but without any guarantee. Maybe somebody else knows better.

AH! Well ...that explains it. I'll dig around for some standard humbucker screws then. THANKS

Well, I can't guarantee that I'm right here but it can't hurt just trying a standard humbucker screw if you have easy access to another guitar.
