As a tip from crtiques given to yours truly as a former steadily working drummer, the legacy drummer is way over the top, and my bandmates did not want that. Steady, tight drumming, with just a little flash thrown in is what kept me in the money on drums.
I can't complain about Johny Barbata's (Turtles) stick twirling. I saw him with Starship in 74' (with no stick twirling) and he played remarkably with some very original, and innovative drumming. In the video clip I do like Johny Barbata's "double decker" cymbol, long before Ginger Baker had them. And one more thing- Johny Barbata actually used all his drum gear. Ginger Baker had a lot of extra cymbol hardware that he rarely, if ever used.
