The bridge is actually a replacement Guild factory bridge that I bought from Hans Moust many years ago. I THINK it is the tallest one that the factory used; it can be shaped to the same size as the current bridge. It is pretty rough as it sits right now in terms of bevels and surface shine.

Neck reset not necessary.

The naming of the thread is from Babylon 5, spoken by G’Kar.

Huh. No memory of this thread I started almost 8 years ago about a guitar building project?

I edited the title of it to read .....AND ENDS!! once the end of the project was reached. I thought there was a connection, is all.

I think that thread was during the time I was away from the board. I would have remembered it, particularly if it was about an acoustic guitar build, if I were around then.

Wow, they really tore that bridge up. Sad, but you have a really nice one to replace it. Even with enlarging the slot I'll be that saddle was tight and put a lot of pressure on that poor weakened part of the bridge causing it to crack.

You know once that spruce is scraped and sanded down level and the color adjusted, I'll bet it's gonna be almost, if not totally invisible. This is so awesome to watch. Thanks for posting this, my friend!! :D(y)

I think for now that I won't be putting back the pickup. Its a really odd design, with what appears to be a U shaped piece of brass that I can't see doing anything good for the acoustic tone. The other part is, I only play at home, without any amplification, so I don't really need the pickup for anything. If I do, at some point, decide to amplify the guitar, I would wanth something like a DTAR, Fishman, or something more modern than the Barcus Berry.

It's progressing nicely!

Yes, there's still a lot to go, but at least the top is now back to being whole again. I had a lot of concerns about how well this was going to go, and it has gone about as well as can be expected. The next potential dangerous repair is removal of the old bridge.

Does that second inside picture show a loose brace?
Sure looks like it is.

I am really enjoying watching you bring this beauty back to life.
Good for you.
I hope you are well rewarded for your efforts.

All the braces were checked, and the two near the damaged areas were loose and have been glued down prior to the strips beginning to be glued down. the braces were/are part of what is helping glue down the wood strips, and ensure that the wood strips are the correct height.

i have a feeling the guitar will sound good after all the work is done. I won"t know for sure until then, just a feeling.

I second TMGs question...
The tone bar/brace running more or less horizontally across the top of the second (of the recent posts) interior picture looks like it has a crack at its "left" end where it butts against the X brace. It's not really near the repair at all... Maybe it's worth another look at it?

Is this the area you are asking about?

I will ask the luthier to look it over again. He did say that he had checked every brace in the guitar, both soundboard and back.

To me it looks like a crack in the brace but there's glue around as if it's been previously repaired. It doesn't look unstable or anything. I think that's an old repair or maybe been fixed more recently. For some reason that doesn't bother me. I think it's stable and running under the other brace by the bridge plate is probably good to go. I see glue from previous repairs. I could be wrong.
