Nothing like watching someone play. It confounds me how many people teach someone's technique, like Page, when there are countless videos of Page playing that are clearly superior to the belabored attempts to teach Page's techniques, one silly little thing he did after another, as if those were really the essence of his playing, as opposed to his songwriting ability, "and then he does these three little notes" and the student becomes so obsessed with some tiny trill that he loses sight of how solid the music is under the tiny trills that Page layered in afterwards.

This is actually a very rare glimpse into a lot of Eddie's techniques, priceless ;]

i like that he was poking fun a bit at jeff beck solos...

yeah, i know a lot of people roll their eyes at Eddie, but i thought he was one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
Les Paul was a fan, and that is really saying something.

Magic fingers, lots of practice. I love that video of Les Paul announcing him.

I remember the 1st time I heard Eruption, on the radio, on my lunch break with the Parks Dept, hanging out [probably getting high ;] in some neighborhood kids garage loft complete with girly mags, it came on the radio and blew our freakin minds. I was already guitar obsessed by then. I already had GAS in 1978 ;] I was playing a Silvertone with twin Gold foils through a VOX Berkeley Reverb Twin. $75 for both amp and guitar in the Sunday paper.

The thing that stands out for me is the joyfulness of his playing, he seemed to have so much fun doing this stuff that no one had ever seen or heard before. Always smiling and goofing round, not taking himself so seriously as some other "famous" guitarists.

Somebody got very high marks as a writer for describing Eddie playing "like he was joyriding in a stolen Ferrari", pretty much covers it, lol.

This is the whole warmup clip from 1986. This is what I wanted but was probably glad I didn't get, fame, fortune, but blowing people away playing guitar was always a dream of mine. It's good to dream. In the end, I'm still learning how to play.
