Hi there, I'm interested in buying a D55 NT into New Zealand. There are a few on eBay, which is a pretty risky proposition if not from a store. I quite like the look of a 2009 NH for sale on there, but I'm not sure about the open back tuners. There is someone around here selling a 2006 Tacoma on Reverb, but not willing to ship to the other side of the world which I guess is fair enough. I don't really want to go too much older than that if I can help it because I'm buying blind. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Sam

No worries about open back tuners if they are OEM...Guild NH used top-of-the-range Gotoh and they are probably as good and much lighter than the Grover Rotomatics.

Arggh, I see this is a Tacoma. Don't know if they ever used Gotohs, my Tacoma D55 had Grovers...:eek:range: Sorry, will just crawl back into my hole...

Thank you Joe. I've had a great many modest instruments over the last ~25 years, most of which I no longer own. I'm turning 40 this year, and thought it would be nice to get a bit of an heirloom; one of the kids might like it in the end =]

I'm pretty darn sure they only started using open-backs again in NH, on the dreadnoughts at least.
Tacomas should be sealed.
I prefer sealed tuners myself but I'm sure the open-backs are of very good quality. I just don't want to have to worry about anything damaging the gears.
