This is it. It has the original Guild pickups back in it now. The ones Allen put in it were off I think a '61 Gibson SG. He threw this guitar into the crowd at Merriweather Post Pavilion in September 1981 during the song Misery Loves Company, something pissed him off and he let it fly. His guitar tech got it back for him. He is quoted as saying he thought this guitar sounded better than his '58 Explorer ever thought about sounding.

Some other members of RCB said the Guild team met up with the band at a hotel lobby in Nashville and brought a whole bunch of guitars for Allen, Gary, BLH and Leon to look through. Allen took a couple of these S300s and a red X-79. He gave that last one to a buddy of his here in Jacksonville which he still has.

I'll get some better pictures at some point.

If you take the Guild pick-ups out of it is it still a Guild? It may look like a Guild but it won't sound like a Guild. Which is more important; Looks or Sound?

It's kind of like original Band members, how many can be replaced and still be the same band?

Allen was like EVH in that he modified just about all of his guitars for the tone he wanted.

Cool pic! Icky Gibson TRC and knobs, though. :) Maybe bridge, too.

Any idea what's up with the extra screws behind the tailpiece?

Looks so much better with the HB-1 pickups in there.

Yeah those were for the Gibson trem he liked to use, just like the ones on his Explorer and Firebird III.

Welcome. I would see whether Drumbob chimes in. He did work for Guild and has some endorsement stories but I think he might have been at Guild a bit later. Looking forward to the pics.

Thank you, but I never worked with Allen Collins while I was at Guild. His association with the company occurred not long after I left.

OP, the photos show Allen playing an X-79. I never saw him playing a white S-300. It's Garry Rossington who looks to be playing a white guitar.

I know for sure Allen accepted 3 endorsement guitars. One white and one black S300, and one red X79. He only ever used the white S300 as a stage guitar. His daughter has the black S300 and a local friend of his has the X79. Allen gave his best friend the white one right after the Merriweather Post incident. He would not play a guitar again after a broken headstock.
