We had a little Al Bowly memorial celebration last night. He was killed on April 17, 1941

Bowly was a very popular vocalist and guitarist who performed with British dance bands of the 1930s. He was espeically popular with women; his band nickname was Al Sex. He was good natured and easygoing, but there was never a fight he backed down from. He habitually carried brass knuckles in his pocket, and band mates were a little afraid of him.

Bowly was killed in London by bomb-blast concussion during an air raid. Not a mark was left on his body. Practicalities of wartime dictated that he was buried in a mass grave with other blitz victims.
