OK, I bid on that last DV52 on the E-normous Auction SitE.

Didn't get it; at a certain point, I realized, heck, I could get a nice new Tacoma D-50, and pick one out for myself, listen to it before a purchase, at around the price the 52s going for.

Just an update. But the new D-50s are the real deal; I've seen'em and they're loud and well-made. I'm not so sure the 52s are as loud; the 52 I've heard was not especially loud. But of course, I'll be bling-less.

Also, the end price was around $972 or so. I'd seen a 52 go for $850 on gbase. I'll assume some other 52 will get listed down the road.

When you compare the build descriptions for the new D-50s with the original DV-52 they are very much alike, most noatably the scalloped bracing. I'm surprisede that they didn't in fact include a "V" or vintage in their name like Martin does for its
vintage series that replicates mid-century building techniques. You may want to consider this new D-50 on eBay, great looking guitar at a great price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

Hey Siwash... Sorry that the DV-52 didn't end up with you. My aim was off on the D-46, as well (If anyone listening got them... enjoy! Let's hear a report!).

I would have pushed the D-46 higher (went for a shade over $800) if I hadn't just laid out the $$$ for a danged computer! The kids have been going thru withdrawal the last 10 days... new monitor arrived today, but the tower probably won't show til Monday. DVs and 46s have been poppng up reasonably regularly... every few months there's another on eBay or Gbase. You can also find D-55s in decent condition for not a whole lot more than some of the 52s have been going for (mine was only $1100). Good luck with your search!

Siwash, do you know a store where you can get a Tacoma D-50 for under $1,000? Curious what is the best price you and others have seen?

I've seen under $1000 on E=auctions, but not in stores. But I'm willing to pop a bit more for the store experience and the ability to select and choose the one I want, rather than leave it up to chance and fate.

re: D-46. That went for a reasonable price, $800; good luck next time. There's bound to be another D-46 up there, and I'd guess, a DV52/

I look at the DV52 on Ebay and almost wanted to bid on that Guitar and if I already didn't have one DV52 I would have bid on that guitar. I was in really nice shape. I looked at least as good as mine! I've only owned my DV 52 since January but have come to really appreiciate that guitar. I think in time I will love her even more. As far as price goes I have seen DV52 go for as much as $1300 Not that long ago. At less than a $1000 is a great deal. I also agree that the D50 on ebay is priced at a very good price! It's all good in my opinion. :D

Hey General----one thing holding me back wasn't just the piece of money involved, but also I have some questions about just how LOUD a DV-52 can go.

How does a DV-52 compare to a D-50, say?

the newer D-50s with scalloped bracing seem to mimic the DV-52.

I think my DV 52 is pretty loud. It's a little hard to tell because I'm not standing in front of the guitar when I'm playing it so I catch an off axes sound which is what every player gets when they play their guitar. It would sound much louder to someone standing in front so that matter is subjective in nature. I have also set-up my guitar with a Bone Saddle and Fossilized Pins which I think helps bring out the sound more. This helped bring out the highs and lows a bit. I think both the DV 52 and D50 have a comparable sound level output. I'm very happy with the DV 52. I think anyone who owns either one of these guitars should be very happy with the quality and sound output. :D

DV52

I paid $850 for a really nice 96 DV 52 about 2 months ago. It compares quite equally to a D-28 martin for quality sound and loudness in my opinion. I had my sights set on a D-28 till I stumbled on this DV 52 in pawn shop. About 1/2 or less of what a D-28 would cost used in my area in comparable shape and heavier built. It's setting next to my 60's vintage F30, so I might be biased, but I don't think so when comparing to Martins
