I am after advice re the humbuckers on my S100. I purchased the guitar five months ago new and it has spent most of the time in the box it came in. I have noticed marks appearing on the humbuckers which won’t come off. Is this discolouration normal and can it removed.
Thank you.

Hiya! It looks to me like the nickel plating is wearing off and the copper underneath is starting to show. At PT and using the phone, but that is what it looks like time.

Thank you. If that is the case, is this normal? It has not been played much at all.

I have not noticed it on the couple of guitars that I have with those pickups, but I have been playing other instruments. No, I don't think that is normal at all. Maybe it had some iffy playing.

I'm not sure what you're describing since the photo is out of focus. Any chance of a more detailed photo?

Thank you for your replies. I have added another photo which will hopefully provide a better illustration. I think I will contact Guild and see what they advise.

I would not expect that on a newish, un-abused instrument. I too wonder about the quality of the plating process since that doesn't look like playwear.

My skin is evidently akin to Alien's saliva--I have to wipe down any nickel plating on my instruments (with my Nationals that's a lot) as
the acidic nature of my hands will cause a similar effect. I have to wear titanium glasses as even gold filled frames were eaten away to the base metal. Happily my S300 has chrome plated parts as my skin doesn't seem to eat it away. Within a couple of months new nickel plated humbuckers would look like yours simply from being played by me without either wiping them down or waxing them.

Hmm. Is it raised or is it pitted? Based on the pattern it looks like it’s a result of playing. Acidic sweat? Allergic to nickel?

Nickel on all me instruments gets foggy.
There is a cleaner for that but I forgot what it is called.
