Gentlemen:

Got an interesting trade in the works, not sure how to assess it. Guy has a '60s Epiphone Riviera. It started out as a 12 string. A previous owner had it "renecked" professionally in the '90s sometime. He musta been a fingerpicker. It's now a 6-string, and neck width at the nut is either 1 13/16 or 1 7/8, judging from the pics he sent. From descriptions and pics, this is in fine shape, original everything but for the neck.

I have no experience with electric 12 strings, which I'd guess are in this range. Have any of you played such electrics, either converted 12s or any wider necked guitar? I'm trying to guess at how easily (or not) I could adapt the neck. The widest necked electric I have is a LP Special, just a hair under 1 3/4 at the nut. And it feels great. Would that extra bit be a deal breaker?

Thanks for your help.

Tom:

I reluctantly came to the same conclusion. Too big a risk. Thanks for your advice.
