I just had a virtual reunion with my Navy buddies, what a treat. We spent 2 hours reminiscing and laughng about times on the USS Ranger, in the Phiippimes, Hong Kong, Hawaii. Seattle. Seems lke I have more memories of those four years than I do of the next 40.

We are getting together this September at Table Rock Lake for our first in person reunion since 1995. This marks 45 years since we all got out of the Navy. I can't wait. I will be making some Lumpia and Pancit, and we'll knock down a few San Miguels. I will probably be the chef for the week, and I don;t mind.

That's good stuff, dread!! I love Pancit!! We have Pilipino friends who keep promising to make it but since we left LA we haven't seen any!! But LV is filled with Pilipinos so I'm hopeful!! I think Don is almost a decade older than you (at 76) but he was in the Navy for 4 years in the very early days of Vietnam. He was a communications officer and has many stories about life on the ship and being in the Orient. Cheers!! Have fun with those who are left to have it, yeah?? (p.s. sorry for the P vs. F but there's not F sound in Tagalog which is the national language of the Pillipines, so in respect for that... I always say P vs. F but hardly anyone knows that.) Yeah, Tom, I was there near the end of our VietNam involvement, in fact it was only a few months after we left there when Saigon fell.

My buddy's Pilipino Mom made the best chicken adobo you could imagine!

In Olongapo City / Subic Bay Naval Base, the street vendors sold hot skewers of "Monkey meat." I asked one of them "Is this really monkey meat?" He said "No, it's really pork." When he looked away his partner gave me the thumbs up and said "Monkey meat."
