So I have a '00 Starfire 4, and a '73 Starfire IV.

Both excellent guitars. I like the neck on the '00 better though. The feel of the '73 is killer, but the '00 is wider.

Anyone (Hans) know when the necks got wider (Hans?) :)

If I'm dreaming I'd be happy to be set straight. Hmm. Maybe I'll go measure. OK I'm not crazy. It's measurable wider on my '00. If the '73 had a neck width like the '00 it would be my favorite guitar ever.

Hmm News to me also is the fact that the body on the '73 is much thicker:

Couldn't get a pic of the neck width without laying one on top of the other, which I'm not gonna do. :)

Still look at that old rosewood. Feels nice.

Great photos! Wish I had one.

It looks like the 73 needs a fret job, you'll be much happier with it if you had it done.

Fascinating about the change in body thickness. One of the things I love about my 67 is it sounds more woody than most other semis I've tried. I figured that the slightly larger body of the Starfire had something to do with it. Over time, it seems Guild made the Starfire more 'dare I say' Gibson-like, introducing fixed bridges, stop tailpieces, larger humbuckers, wider necks etc.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your original question.

I'd be interested in the answer to the neck width question too. I'm keeping my eye open for a Sf II or T-100, and I think I'd like the narrower necks on some of the older models (1 5/8"?).
