Franz pickups twang alright, and they're on the bright side, but somehow I think you'd be in a lot of trouble plugging that guitar into the Dick Dale-approved Fender Showman with one or two JBLD130's....!!

Also, while I love rockabilly, and like surf guitar, I don't really understand why/how the two styles get lumped together as much as they do - they don't really have that much in common, if anything..?

they get lumped together because in my experience people into roots music generally also listen to some sort of surf or instrumental music. My love of old rockabilly has come directly from listening to Shadowy men and Man or Astroman?

That's a cool guitar they're talking about. Me, I play surf type stuff (of my own devise) on anything handy. And my two "surf" guitars (DiPinto Galaxie 4 and Yamaha SGV800) get used for more for blues and miscellenous primitive rock rudeness.

But then again, I don't go for "surf-approved", SS rectified amps, cavernous reverb settings and the like. These genre borders are only as solid as you let them be.

Speaking of genres, I'm never exactly sure where rockabilly begins and ends ...
