A couple of technical questions

I have noticed that the early Guilds had very thin maple bridge plates. When did they switch to the large rosewood plates? Also Guilds from the 60`s and 70`s have larger neck blocks, compared to some other makers. Is this for strength only and is this the main reason that Guilds can feel heavy.

can't answer the first question, but the thick neck won't be the only factor making weight - those 70s babies were heavily engineered all over
