I saw a lovely '94 Westerly JF-30 today and I loved it. I have three dreadnaughts and I would love to have a maple jumbo. It plays well, is in excellent condition (apparently has two repaired cracks which I didn't see, and sounds great. They're asking $995.00 (with case). Is this a reasonable price? Will I be able find others if I let this one go?

That sounds like it is in the right Ballpark for a JF 30 with a couple good repairs.
Sounds like you really dug it. If you can swing it I wouldn't let it get away.
You could always offer them a little less. Good Luck with it in any case.

The Vintage Price Guide range is $800 to $1,000 for one in excellent condition. Given the cracks $995 seems a bit high.

There was one in the Fort Worth Craigslist that was listed as excellent condition for $900. After a coupe of months the price was dropped to $700. I guess it sold for that.

I've always considered the Westerly and to some extent, the Corona JF-30's/JF-30 12s, some of the best bargains in a Maple Jumbo. You get all the great tone for a fraction of the price of their flashier, look at me, older siblings. Here in So Cal, I've seen mint examples go for as little as $650 on CL. Just depends on where and when it's for sale. A repaired guitar, even if it appears to have been expertly repaired, is still a repaired guitar and should be priced accordingly. Also check for the proper tuners for that particular year, as well as the common sense neck, brace and bridge potential issues.

An original case is always a plus as I'm always a bit suspect when the Seller's asking top dollar for a guitar in a gig bag or worse, no case. Again, the bottom line is how does it sound; everything else is meaningless as no one needs a $1k Wallhanger. Good luck...

I was lucky to score a brand new 1993 JF-30-12 at GC for $800 several months ago with mint OSC and case candy. I don't expect everyone to get lucky like that. However, I'd think you should be able to fetch a sound JF-30-12 for $800.

Yes, it includes the hardshell case. I am thinking it is high, but maybe they will come down. If not, what the hell, there'll be another sometime.

 I see you did put that in the original post. In any case that just sounds more like 12-string money, and others are sending in sightings at more "realistic" prices for you anayway.

I thought about selling my first Guild, my '84 D -35, since I now own three dreads, but there's a lot of sentiment in that one, and I've also always believed that it is almost always a mistake to sell a guitar. I wish I hadn't sold my '64 Kay electric bass and my way cool 23 watt Sears Silvertone all-tube bass amp.

Maybe someday you'll be able to talk Chris Isaac into sellin' it back to ya?

I think I'll wait and look for something different, like a 412 or 512.
