So I've been thinking about selling my f-44 or possible trade but I can't find more then 2 songs listings from years ago to go off of. Any info would be appreciated!

Hi, and welcome. I’ve looked at a few of these over the past few years. For reference you can also look at GF60 or GF60M which is in essence the same guitar just renamed a few years later. Condition is paramount. I see the pick guard is gone. A list of any flaws, repairs and replacement parts would help. A few closeup angled pictures of bridge/saddle area, action (string height at the 12th fret), condition of the frets and fretboard would help establish what work might be needed. Does it have the original hard case??

I forgot just how much those resemble the GF60M, which I own. I bought it new in 1988. Were the tuners on your guitar originally gold And eventually fade? Or were they nickel/silver to begin with? My tuners were that same model but were gold plated and faded through the years. I’m not a big fan of gold hardware, so I did change out the tuners to Grover Sta-tites. I like the look quite a bit better. 87493C9A-6917-4EDB-BAFE-240CC0ECE520.jpeg0489B8A5-4390-4E02-A04D-2C9AB44F4D10.jpeg13EBFC4D-40A8-4608-8A8A-18136872D9D5.jpeg

I’m sorry those photos are so large. I couldn’t figure out how to make them smaller

Back in the day, Gotoh also made a chrome-plated version of those waffleback tuners with oval buttons. I eventually tracked down a set and replaced the original nickel-plated versions on my F44. Not sure what this issue was with the nickel-plated version, but they would tarnish much faster than my other nickel-plated hardware on my other guitars.

Tommy,
Several, several years ago I was inquiring (well actually complaining) about the gold waffle back tuners on my GF60. The gold plating was rubbing off. This is the main reason for my dislike of gold hardware. Anyway, Hans and I entered into a discussion. He had a guitar ( I don’t remember the model) which was lacking its original gold waffle back tuners. You guessed it…the same as what I was complaining about. He wanted to return it to its original look and didn’t mind if the gold was a bit spotty in places. He sent me a set of gold Grover Rotomatics in better condition and I sent him the waffle backs. We were both happy. I used the Rotomatics for years until they started to lose the gold plating. So I changed to the chrome Sta-tite and like them .

Sorry for the topic derailment o_O

Well I am perplexed as to why you would consider selling such a beautiful guit as Guild does maple like no other IMHO, but sometimes you need to pay some bills. Sometimes you just don't bond.. Been there. I just don't see these pop up on the bay or the verb too often. As stated in the thread condition should absolutely drive price point. I don't know that I wouldn't find something close to a period correct guard to slap on there. Good luck in your decision.
