I got this '77 M80 (15602) a few days ago from a small dealer in the Midlands UK...it a little scruffy, couple of unsightly knobs, no case, but has it got a lovely sound! Everything works and the neck is just so fast. Heavy but nice. Its a nice way to get a set of HB1's for sure (why I got it) but I now think its rather more than that, and I love the ebony board! The frets look fat to me..couldn't see any info on what original frets might be..?

Fabulous guitars! Sadly, the neck on mine was just too tiny for me. Killer tone, though!

Congrats MM54!
I believe the frets on my '76 M80 were original, the frets on yours
appear somewhat wider - or perhaps worn down?

That model looks classy in black, congrats! It's oozing with HB-1 goodness. :)

I was watching that one. Glad it's gone to a good home
Ah thanks PoD! It solves a problem for me.. I mostly play nylon or finger style but like to have a solid around just in case. Fallen totally out of love with my Tele, and my Nightbird project not finished, this now gives me a solid guitar I love! (Got to change my wardrobe for stage use though…clearly more black needed!😎)

Many thanks B88..that helps a lot! I think mine do seem original, but worn (dressed?) down as you suggest! I can’t see any obvious signs of refret.

Yes, Guild started using such wide but low frets around that time if I recall correctly. Those never were round on top but rather flat. Others who have electric guitars from that second half of the 70s can for sure verify. And if I told something wrong here I hope I get corrected.

Very nice guitar, I bet it sounds great. I bought a 1971 M-75 at a Music Go Round 4 or 5 years ago. I never cared for black guitars but this poor thing was in need of some serious help. After repairing the bridge, replacing and regluing binding and dressing the frets it is a fantastic guitar but rather heavy. Traded a Mexican tele plus $300 and never looked back. I even sold my Les Paul!
Thanks and enjoy. John
Did I mention, I like black now!
