Yeah if only that swapper that easy. I have a donor chassis sitting home without case or speaker or anything just the chassis. That thing is going to get converted into probably something along the line of what you suggested, but I have to punch another hole for the phase inverter since I won't have the dual tubes to mess around with.

ECL86s are still available. A little pricey but they’re great tubes. The ones in my Thunder 1 are the original Guild labeled tubes. Worth the investment.

If yer gonna punch another hole in that chassis you could build a little screamer. Keep the ECL86s and add a one-tube-reverb to a Marshall Popular circuit. I’ve build a bunch of little amps using a Hammond AO-44 reverb amp as the platform. One EZ81 and a pair of ECL86s. Just add your favorite preamp.

The 6GW8 / ECL86 was a very popular valve back in the day. Used in a lot of radiograms, tape recorders and TVs. Also popular for budget hi-fi power amps. I have a Rogers Cadet III, in storage, which used four to give a little under 10 Watts stereo. Basically it's half an ECC83 combined with a small output pentode that is similar to an EL84, but a little smaller and less powerful. A shame nobody makes them anymore :(
