Has anyone (other than Hans I'm sure) seen an actual 1968 D25? I think I've only seen one online ever.

Asking because I am waiting on some pics and may buy one that seems to basically be a closet classic at a reasonable price.

Got a suspicion there're very few survivors as according to the s/n lists they were very low production compared to the D35. I can recall seeing one (online ) a few years back, notable because of the unusual p/g's on 'em.

I think the '68 models would have a "cloud" bridge, through-saddle, black overlay on headstock, etc.
Never realized they might have had cloud bridges, but thought those "truncated" 'guards were a '68-'69 thing only, and never even thought about 'em having through-saddles.

However wanted to see if i could confirm your guess so found the original ad for that pic and the s/n's OG1045, which is definitely post '69 and precedes the switch to the 5-digit numeric system implemented during '70 according to "the lists", so it appears you're spot-on. :)[/URL]

I bet a 1968 would sound amazing. Probably be a great song writer guitar. I remember a decade or so ago I tried to sell mine. On local Texas CL. A song writer, musician from Nashville wanted it. For that very thing. But I decided to keep it for the umpteenth time. They are a bit dark sounding for my taste these days. In July, we went to help out at a church camp. I took it with me. I got to sit in with some other musicians playing along outside amphitheater and such. Man did that D25br sound good. A friend there walked in on me practicing at one point, he own a lot of high end acoustics and electrics. He goes, “Damn Woody, that old guild just sounds good”. It was a matter of fact, period. 😁

Forgot to mention, first thing I did was check the GBB but the pic in there's a '71, so no use for confirming bridge/faceplate config on a '68.
S/n's show like 230 through '69 compared to like 1600 for D35's (!) Surprised me first time I realized it, too. :D

Ah well maybe next week. :LOL:

'78 maybe.
Yeah looks like the later more "chocolate-y" "M" stain. Curious, Donny did you get an s/n, just to confirm my impression that tops got darker later on in the '70's?

No I just looked at it and can tell it’s mid-late ‘70s right off the bat. TBH I was skeptical it was a real ‘68.

Yep, that's the only one I've ever seen in the online wild. And I want one in Cherry! I've seen a 1969 in cherry on eBay, sold not too long ago (for way too much IMO). I think it was OG-236?

Both the '68 & '69 have the following feature combination which would make them unique to these two years:

* Smaller pickguard
* Black plastic headstock overlay w/ Mother-of-Pearl inlay
* Through-saddle
* Cloud bridge

My '68 D35 shares these features, so would be a nice pair.

The oldest D25 I owned was a '71 flat back - ok guitar - imo your '68 D35 was way better.
But - sold that '71 to Richard Fortus (GnR) who seemed to really dig it.
No photos of him playing it unfortunately!

Ha oh wow.

Yeh I think this D35 is certainly unique among Guilds. It has a woody resonance that I have not found in any other ... the closest was actually a '66 Mark I that was super super lightweight and you could feel every part of it when strumming.
