The long neck gives a Texan more snap than a J 45. It's very noticeable playing them back to back. Are the smaller Guilds short scale, perhaps the M 20?
M20's, F20's and F30's were shortscale although F30 got long scale a couple of times over the years.

You are probably correct in realizing it's only going to go to a repair guy. The top issue would be of interest to me as I've never done that sort of repair. I have done frets, but add it up, considering maybe a neck reset, and it becomes untenable for me. Even if you could do a decent job it would be hard to flip.
You couldn't negotiate a return?

I probably could have but I just wanted the easiest way out. It was already becoming a bit complex, and I felt for the guy. I think his intentions were good but he would never have gotten any money from UPS with that packing job IMO. Then one of us would have to pony up for return shipping … not to mention the crack being pretty bad to go through another cross country trip. Splitting the loss and giving me 50% refund seemed reasonable to me. I’m alright with playing hardball if someone is adversarial … but this was a friendly transaction that went way wonky.

I sold it for cheap to a local guy yesterday, and made a new friend out of it. So all’s well that ends well, you win some you lose some etc.
