Time for an update.

A few months ago I got some screws delivered, and they were almost a home run. Here they are side by side.

From left to right:

1. '70s Guild screw
2. Modern replacement
3. '70s Guild screw
4. Modern replacement

I think the modern replacement for the nickel/chrome (whatever it is) is a slam dunk. Damn it looks great! The gold, not so much.

I just emailed the guy who I was dealing with to see why the color is so different since that's a pretty big change.

I cannot at this time advise buying the gold ones since they're something like $1/screw and just aren't right, but the nickel ones are good to go.

Also I love my 3D printer because I printed a base to hold them all level and even for the picture.

I just heard back and apparently they were having problems with the plater that did the gold screws AND they were different screws, so that sucks because he says there are no more screws like this to be found.

So it sound like for the gold plated version it is better to buy the nickel version and ask a local jeweler to gold plate them.

And if you wish to save your pennies - just tell them to insert the top-ends only into the bath . . . - the rest will be inside the guitar anyways . . .
