Going through my past orders from a wide variety of vendors, back 2 to 3 years. Yes ,i save reciepts for everything guitar related.
Im amazed at the up pricing in strings. Crazy.string sets i was paying 4.99, 5.99 ,a couple years ago, are now costing 8.99 . 10.99 ,a set for 12 string sets ,are now 13.99.These are only a few .But, my orders of 45.00 to 60.00 dollar orders back then ,are now 80.00 plus.
i own 12 acoustics, so i keep a variety of strings on hand. Not complaining ,just a bit concerned At the price increases in our chosen hobby / passion.

$$$$$ Like everything else. Strings don’t impact me as much higher costs of heating oil, gasoline, food, healthcare, etc. but yeah.

I’ve been leaving my strings on longer and only changing when they are really dead. Cleaning with a wipe down type product helps a little.

There are one or two current threads about a D’addario sale on certain strings. Very good pricing on 10/12 packs. Stock up if you need them.

EB Slinkies cost $3.00/pack in 1978, and if you shopped around, you could still find them or D'Addario XLs for that price up until just a few years ago.

$3.00 in 1978 dollars is about $13.45 today.

yeah, i get that there are other things that create more urgency.I was just taken back by the increase in a particular string set, then decided to go back and check all my guitar related expenses

Here is the string sale thread. Right now a 10-pack of D’addario PBs for $43 delivered from S&B. Pretty nice.

Strings have gone up, plus there's tax on ever single thing you buy now, so a 3 pack of my favorite strings = $23.71 after tax = $7.90 a pack, still a relatively small purchase for something that makes you feel that good.

i agree 100%. ill continue buying strings lol. there is no alternative.. Ive switched all my maple body guitars to daddarios nickle bronze strings, as im partial to their ability to just make my guitars voice their true tones. Pretty much use pyramid western folk round core on mahogony guitars. And ,i love the retro monels on some rosewood guitars. But also use aluminum bronze .

I love playing a new set of strings! This is one of my few vices - as has been said, a pack of strings is not much money in the overall scheme of things.

Agree. When comparing the cost of housing and transportation from 40 yrs ago until today....and a pack of strings from 40 years ago until today, you're still dealing with chump change in the grand scheme of things. An hour's work at minimum wage 40 years ago couldn't buy a single pack. Today you can buy 2. All is well. (y)

Another reason to have multiple guitars, each one waits longer for their string change if rotating consistently! Inflation be damned!

Even so, I have 4 guitars in various tunings I play at least every other day, if not every....and 3 others I only pick up maybe once every month...or 4. While the strings on the played guitars certainly wear out much faster, the ones on the unplayed guitars by no means sound like 2 day old strings when only played twice over the course of 3-4 months. More like clean, but semi lifeless strings that sound like they are weeks old already. They age out just by being strung up and sitting on a guitar stand.

My local music store sells Elixirs for a dollar a less than they are selling for at the online sites that a lot of us frequent. I haven't checked on other brands as I use Elixirs, but I will the next time I'm in there. It isn't a huge savings and I only have two guitars to string, but it is a dollar and they are a ten minute drive.
