Hello there,

i've got a 1998 Starfire IV, plugged it in earlier to find the tone knob was missing for the bridge pickup (found it on the floor). It's was very loose and slipped right off the pot. So i decided to grab a screwdriver and widen the pot pegs. one of the two pegs snapped on me! oh crap! :?
Does it matter which pot i replace it with, and how does one get the pot back inside the guitar? The pots currently in the guitar look to have a white base, Any have a spare guild pot knocking i could buy? Had a look on ebay but couldn't find anything. Do different pots affect tone? I'm so pleased with how the guild sounds i'd hate to change the tone even slightly.

Thanks for any help/advice :)

Hi; you have to replace the pot with another of the same resistive value ... believed to be 250K. To replace the pot, you will have to remove the entire harness ... look around on the web for directions but you have to remove the retaining nuts on the pots, tie a string / fishing line / something to the pot shaft (or what's left of it), remove one of the pickups, and drag everything out of the guitar including the pot with the damaged shaft, replace the damaged pot and, using the strings, pull everything back in, remembering to check physical orientation ... if you haven't messed with this before, you might want to think about having the work done in a shop. Good luck. CJ

I very carefully unscrewed the pot, because of the tension of the wire i had to take out the corresponding volume pot too. Both came out the F-Hole though, so hopefully the new one will go in the way this one has come out:-

the pots guild have used says: 77 WD 500 on the side. I guessing i need to replace it with a 500k pot, 500k CTS Audio pot Vintage style back

Secondly, While i'm at it i'm going to replace the right angle selector switch, the bushing on the one from allparts doesn't look like it will reach through the body, does anyone know which switchcraft switch will fit fine in a 1998 starfire IV?
The bushing could well be long enough, These 98 starfire's do seem to have a thinner body.

thank you for any advice
