Hi everyone!
I'm new to the site and to guild guitars starting last week when i bought a 1994 s-100 reissue wich ended up to be a great surprise to me son nce it is one of the best made guitars i ever had.
I was actually looking for a sg when i found this one and reminded me the badmotorfinger era.
I tried it out and fell in love inmediatly.
I wanted to know more about the guitar and quickly i found out that information on guild guitars is hard to get in the internet.
Finally i got here.
I discovered mine is one of the first year reissues due to the serial number and some features such as the old style guild bridge instead of the tuneomatic, the rounded end of the fretboard and the the hb1's or at least the covers.
I think the pick ups are duncans (i read the great article gad published on his blog).
The only thing that doesn't seem right about the guitar is that i have this rather strange issue with the electronics.
It is quite weird and goes like this:

When i have the switch selector at the bridge or neck position and i roll down the volume conpletely i still get let's say 20% of the sound coming from the other pick up, the one that's not selected by the switch.
Also i was recording some hi gain stuff and i notice microphoic feedback and somehow a "hollow" sound that doesn't quite match the dark and full tones you'd expect from a mahogany guitar.

I think that this may be something about the wiring and i can't stop thinking about the out of phase switch.
By the way i had a sg custom from the seventies and i remember how obvious it was the sound when in the middle position wich was bridge and niddle pick ups out of phase, the s-100 is noticeable with clean settings but hardly when distorted.

Anyway, the main issue is the "opposite pick up leaking some sound when the main one volume is rolled down and shoul be conpletely quiet".

Any ideas?
Thank you so much and excuse my english since i'm from argentina.

Welcome!
The issue you've described isn't normal for the S-100. It sounds like amybe a bad volume pot or a wiring issue to me.
BTW, if you're lucky, you have HB-1's in your guitar. Pictures would tell us a lot (plus we love S-100 porn!)

Should be easy enough to fix the wiring, but make sure that the person fixing understands the phase switch wiring.

And yes, please post a picture of two and tell us the serial number as well. It's a great year for that guitar.

Hey Yompi - I saw your comment on my blog. I'm glad you got on here. Welcome!

There is definitely something wrong. Hard to say what it is without examining the wiring. If you could take the back cover off and take an in-focus well-lit high-res photo of the control cavity, we might be able to help.

Also, yes - a pic of the front will allow us to tell you what the pickups are assuming they haven't been rewound.

Thanks everyone! As Walrus said cavalry has arrived (if there's such a thing as a Guild Cavalry)
Taking pictures is easy but i think due to being new i'm not allowed yet to upload them.
Anyway I'll take pictures of the cavity and the pick ups reverse and try to put them here.
I hope woth a little luck I won't have to change a thing but to solder a few wires or maybe change a pot.
Happy to be here even when I have only 2 guilds, the other one is a 78 D 40 wich I love.

Welcome aboard Yompi!
You aren't restricted from posting pics just because you're new.
You need to upload your pictures to a hosting site like Photobucket and then link to them from here.
Use the "insert image" icon from the toolbar at the top of the posting window and insert the URL of a .jpg (or a couple of other types) file.

The question comes up a lot with new members.

Ok, it's getting hard to post the photos but i'll do it.
Meanwhile, this is what I found under the hood.
I don't know how sd1's look but my pick ups are seymour duncans with the big "S" stamped on the metal base.
They both have stickers taht read "59" and "jb" so i guess there's no mistery here.
I assume they're not originals to the guitar since there's another stucker in the neck cavity with the name amd phone number of a luthier.
Regarding the circuit, i don't understand it that much, the phase switch confuses me, but there's a faraday cage in the cavity that i'm pretty sure is not original. It looks kind of not really wellmade and it makes me think that at some point the electronics had been messed around wich would explain the strange issues I have.
Now I'm thinking about getting a set of hb1's straight from Guild since the vintage ones are hard to get.
I don't if they're gonna make a great difference anyway but everyone here seems to like them so much and i'm curious about how they sound and getting a taste of the real character of the guitar, wich once again is AMAZING!
I don't know how is it such an unknown instrument when it is that good!

Looks like you tried to link directly to an Instagram image but it isn't one of the "allowed file types".
I think that's why a hosting service is needed, it'll allow you to single out an image file(s) to link to.
Look for file names that end in ".jpg", otherwise you got the right idea.
In theh meantime your description sounds like it explains what you're seeing pretty well anyway, but I'm sure somebody like GAD might be able to assist better if he can make reference to details in photos.
Carry on!

Alan, i see you have a 2016 s-100. Any comments compared to the 90's? They're not expensive here and since they come with the hb1's i thought about getting one. Would that be redundant having the 94?

I had them both and wrote about them here: http://www.gad.net/Blog/2016/08/21/battle-of-the-guild-s-100-reissues/

IMO the '90s S100 is a better guitar, though the NS is no slouch.

You can always just post a link to the Instagram photos.

I agree. The 90's are overall better, but the NS's are good buy. There is nothing that says you wouldn't like the NS HB1 reissue pups. It's really a matter of personal taste.

That's too bad that someone went in and messed up all the tronics. Maybe just getting it all properly wired will make the difference? The SD's you have are good pups, and there is no reason to abandon them. They probably are original, but the rest of what's going on in there sounds like it needs to be re-worked.

I read it. Great piece! Sounds like if there weren't no 90's reissues the new ones would we just great, even when they are not as great as the others. Personally, i miss the guild bridge and the tuners. Sometimes it is hard to understand some manufacturers policies!

I was talking to the dealer that sold me the guitar and he explained that the pick yps are originals but at some point a not sonqualified guy messed around with the con trol cavity. I gotta post the photographs!
