I purchased this from a gentleman in my Facebook group. He was going to list it so I thought I would give rosewood a shot first. He’s been playing parlor guitars exclusively for a number of years now. I spent a couple weeks with it. My wife says it’s loud. I don’t think it’s any louder than my maple and mahogany Guilds, just a different kind of loud. The huge base response this guitar has I think makes our ears hear it as louder. For me it is definitely boomier. I can certainly see why folks are drawn to rosewood. If I were a flat picker that’s what I would want. Neck profile seems shallower than the others, which makes the fretboard seem extra wide. I really like the guitar, just like my maple and mahogany tones more. I’ll try it here a few weeks before listing it elsewhere.
It’s been case bound for a long time. It’s just as I got it, I have not changed anything. Same setup it’s had for 25 years according to the seller. Action is good, neck is straight, neck angle is good. I did check the truss rod it’s fine. No scratches, dents, scuffs or rash on the top, back, or sides. One finish flaw it does have is a small lacquer chip rear top corner of the headstock. Nothing has been removed, the nut is still lacquered over, has a small chip in the bone close to the A slot. All original parts. Not much of any fret wear. Clean inside out Just like I received it. There are a couple of cracks in the neck binding but it all seems to be in tact. Binding has yellowed a bit. The binding at rear back has a dark spot. (in the photo) He was told it was a lacquer reaction to the case lining at some point due to long term storage In the case. Brown faux leather case is in excellent condition inside out. That’s about it. It’s beautiful and plays great. Hate to lose a flagship model, hopefully someone here likes a D55.
$2300 covers shipping, insurance and PayPal fees. That gets me back to where I began. Thanks
