I thought I had started a thread on this forum about this particular guitar but I can't find it.

So, as you may recall I bought this one on Reverb because it was a good deal and the seller said it was in mint condition. It was not in mint condition but it did sound great. The seller offered me a fair credit if I kept the guitar so I did. I then sent it to Tom Jacobs who did the following work:

-Refinished the headstock overlay. He removed the old tuners and finish, cleaned everything up and resprayed it. It looks great now

-Re-glued the bridge

-Installed new bone nut, saddle and bridge pins

-Checked the electronics out and then set it up and restrung it

It sounded great from the start but now looks great as well. I was going to sell it but now I'm not so sure. I have fewer Mahogany guitars than any other tonewood and this one just kinda grabbed me. It sounds every bit as good if not better than any D 40 I've owned or my DV 6. It didn't show real well in the pics but the Mahogany back on this one is exceptional.

Anyway, here's a few pics.

That one is a beauty for it's simple elegance. I'm sure it sounds great too. Classic Guild look. Congrats on finding that one. Hard to figure how someone thought it was "mint" though.

Yeah, I agree. Turns out the guy isn't a player. inherited it, found a similar listing and used a bunch of the verbiage. If I listed it, and now that Tom has done his work, I'd be comfortable saying it's in very good condition but certainly not mint or excellent.

Was a bit hidden!

And looking at the "before" / "after" pictures shows again the magic of Tom!

This turned out really nice, enjoy! Can't wait for my D-6 to come back from my tech.

What strings did you chose for this one?

Something you occasionally see: the screwhole for one of the tuners gets stripped so the owner turns the tuner a few degrees in one direction or the other and drills a new screwhole. If you're careful you can hide the old screwhole with the screw tab.

I wonder if that's what happened with your B string tuner here. The angle is definitely off.

The D-6 is fairly rare, having only had a three year run, and then the high gloss version is a bit rarer. In the '70s, I bought a D-40 new & really liked it, but then my eye turned toward smaller bodies & it got traded away. About six years ago, this minty D-6nt-hg came along and took care of my D-40 lust. It really is just a D-40 in slightly different clothing. It's from 1992, the first year of the D-6, when it sported a plain headstock & inlaid Guild logo (I added the shield TRC):

Wow this looks super clean, nice! TRC looks good. Is this a wound G string?

Thanks ruedi. Yes, it's essentially like new, with just one little finish dimple on the edge of the lower bout - not even any checking or fret wear. I was pretty amazed upon receiving it, as it already had 23 years under it's belt at that time. The PB strings are a standard set of D'Addario EJ-15 extra-lights, which I use on most of my acoustics.

I can't recall ever seeing a set of flat-top specific strings that didn't use a wound G. ;)

Someone's gotta ask the stupid questions I guess😅 I'm kinda new to the string-biz because all I use are Ernie Ball Slinkys on my Electrics, and now I finally get my first good Acoustic and discover that there's a lot more to strings than I would have guessed.
