I know your reverb post says not to call it a suped up D25, but technically is that what it is? Spruce top, arched hog back, solid hog sides. Like a D25 on steroids.

Technically, you may be right. I'm not qualified to say. I do prefer to not lump it in with the D 25's and D 40's that we all know and love so well. Not that I don't love those models. I have both and adore them But, .I just think this guitar deserves to be considered what it is, a D 48. I mean, you can make that same argument with many Guild (and others) models. Aren't they very similar to such and such.

I think in spirit it’s a dreadnaught version of a F48. Wasn’t Guild a little more selective with woods from the D-40 onwards?

Nice guitar, Richard. Do you know whether the bracing on this is standard or scalloped (like many of the other Gruhn designs)?

It wouldn't surprise me if it did indeed get an AA top and scalloped or at least shaved bracing to go along with the fretboard, and help differentiate it from the arched back 'hog body D25's.

What's kind of interesting is that this came out when the D40 was about to be replaced by the DV-6 which did get AA top and shaved braces...but this one wouldn't be "a D40 with upgraded board inlays", as D40's were flatbacks.

I do get why Richard says "...it's a D48". He's right.

We just can't resist trying to dissect its DNA. :)

I'm very sure this is not a Gruhn design, it's way too late and the arched back 'hog body dread platform existed long before he came to Guild, see posts #9 and #11 here:
