Things do go up. When it was said these go for a lot, I didn't realize you were talking so little money, comparatively to say Pat # Gibson p'ups.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-Gibs...668765?hash=item46abc7309d:g:Hl4AAOSwnfVehSlK Sold for $1000.

Look at it this way. Buy the HB1's, be happy (is there a price on that?), put them back where they belong, in that guitar. Be happy, play, and in time they will be worth $1000.

I've sold lots of vintage pickups, always top dollar. They always sell.

Some else will buy these vintage HB1's if you don't, you'll always have regrets, and they will only go up in price.

Never buy singles if you can, always buy a set that was a set if you can.

Good point. According to The a Guitar Mechanic’s website, he has sold a couple of sets for $500 already. I saw the pick ups on eBay as well and was a bit surprised, especially when you can get a used NS S-100 for around $500+

Thanks for the feedback!

Ken is notorious for charging a lot and not budging. He'd rather hold out for someone willing to buy than make a sale by lowering his prices. He's got a small horde of rare parts so I can't really blame him.

Now, you said in your previous post that they can be coil split? I've emailed him about that because I would pay a lot more for those, especially if NOS. The ones in the pics are not coil-splittable.

Yes, he did. I just emailed him to clarify to see if I misunderstood.

I would post the email he sent me, but I am not sure if that is bad form.

To clarify my clarification...I emailed him to see if I misunderstood his email that indicated the pick ups were cool splitting. I have yet to hear back from him at this point.

Got it. I emailed him too. Tell you what, if his pair is four wire I’ll pay what he’s asking and sell you a regular pair for a better price if you’re into that.

Yes, sir. I am open to that idea:).
Just heard back from Ken. He said the pick ups pictured do NOT have coil splitting capabilities. He says one of them works with phase control switch, and he concluded by telling me the price in not negotiable (I never tried to negotiate with him😀)

So, I figured GAD would be correct, but I don’t know why Ken would mention coil splitting in the first place. Maybe he thought I was someone else.

The search continues....

I understand GAD's desire to find a set of HB-1 that came from the factory with four wires. But, FWIW, it's not difficult or particularly dangerous to modify any vintage HB-1 by bring out a third wire that is the junction between the two coils. This allows coils splitting. I did it on my first S300 way back in the early 80's and found it useful to get a single coil sound.

EDIT: changed "single sound" to "single coil sound."

I'm aware. :) I have a thing where I can't modify vintage gear like that. I also would not buy HB1s that had modified in this manner, so if resale value is ever a concern, that could be a problem.

Nevertheless, Ken must have something that coil splits or else why would he have mentioned them to me? Has he returned your email? I’m curious if you found out what he meant.

For sake of completeness: just received an email from Ken. He apologized for the confusing email and explained that some of Fender HB1s had cool splitting capability but they are totally different pick ups.

I have a pair of used/excellent/very good HB-1s from a 1972 S-100, with the rings. also have a truss rod cover (NOS). i'm ready to move on the pickups, but cannot come anywhere close to the Newark Street HB-1 price. I would try to hear a Newark Street HB-1 guitar, before making a decision. but hit me up if u wish
