My first post, but I've been a fan of the site for a while:

I have a 1976 S-100 I am considering selling. Here is the microwave version of the story:

1976 Guild S-100: #135776

1980 (Circa) bought used and given to “middle school” me as a gift

1983 (Circa), turned into heavy metal machine:
Painted black :(
Humbuckers replaced by Dimarzios :(
Original case left in rain, warped, and discarded :(
Original back cover, vintage knobs, and Humbuckers missing :(

1992 (Circa) Refinished to original Mahogany

2020: Atlanta Guitar Works just completed the following:
Refret, including new bone nut
Two custom humbuckers--about 5000 winds per coil (a little extra on the bridge pick-up)
Bridge Resistance 8.19; Neck Resistance, 8.05
Alnico 5 magnets
Toaster Top covers :(
New electronics: wiring and 500K CTS pots (and, I still vintage pots/switches)

New Guild Volume and Tone knobs have been ordered

Despite the fact that it is still my favorite guitar and plays and sounds great, I am considering selling it. I just have no idea what its worth. Any help or advice you can offer would be much appreciated. I attached some pictures, as well.

Thanks,

Welcome!

No idea as to what your guitar is worth.

I do know that if I had a dollar for everyone that regretted selling the guitar of there youth I could by yours!

I have not.

Free advice: Don't sell that guitar unless you need the money to eat, and even then you'll regret it. I guarantee you it's worth more to you than the money you'll get from selling it.

Yep - I'm another one with sellers regret. You mention its you favorite guitar and it plays alright? If you don't need to - don't do it.

Welcome to LTG! You are bonded to that guitar which means it inspires you to play. That's the best kind of guitar regardless of looks or monetary value. Play on!

Hate to say it, but I quite like the look of that upside down, Gibson style truss rod cover!;)
I'm with the others on selling, only do it if you really need the money. You'd probably struggle to get another guitar you like as much, especially for the same price as you would be able to sell it for.

Hi, welcome!

I'd keep it. It's your favourite guitar, and you have history with it. This alone is sufficient reason not to sell it. Plus I think the modifications decrease it's market value, plus you invested money on new frets and pickups, which sure make it a player's guitar, but not desirable for a collector. So you might probably be disappointed with the selling price you can achieve. Just my two cents.

Thanks again for the welcome:)

You all make excellent points. Ultimately, I think I may be feeling a bit guilty for not preserving such an excellent instrument in it's vintage condition. (In fact, before considering selling it, I had planned to seek out vintage parts to replace the ones I removed since owning it--still, it would not be original).

In my mind, I see it as a Resto-Mod--a recognizable classic with a bit of modern performance. And, it is just so great to play!

Still wish I could find HB-1 double hump covers:)

I really appreciate your advice and wisdom. Glad I finally joined the group!

Also a guitar that’s been loved and has history with you is more important than all original parts. Embrace the memories; don’t lament them.

I didn’t make it this far in life with all of my original parts. ;)

Yes, sir. I am considering HB-1's for the guitar. Until can find the right pair, I would like to at least have the covers because the toaster top look just doesn't work for me with the guitar.

...reissue HB-1's vs vintage HB-1's... the reissue's are affordable but not sure how they will sound. That's part of the reason I had custom humbuckers installed. BUt, I am certainly looking fr a vintage sound--something for blues and classic rock

The upside down Gibby cover is the only thing that looks off to me, and you can see a shadow line from when it was installed the right way, never mind the mismatched screws, the lower one being correct, and the upper one actually a Gibson (or Guild?) neck pickup ring screw. A countersunk screw is usually never seen on the TR.

Gorgeous 1 piece flat sawn Mahogany body, very comparable with Gibson's better woods on their older SG's as well as the back of most vintage Flametops.

What does it weigh, 7lbs?

Yes, sir, right around 7lbs. It is comfortably lightweight as compared to say a swamp ash stratocaster.

I am looking for a set of double hump Hb-1 covers--I might do well to find a a Guild TR cover and correct TR screws while I am at it:)

Thanks for the feedback.

That's been my experience, as well. Guitars Galore had several covers listed but were, unfortunately for me, sold already. Thanks for the information. I will keep looking.
