Hey all! So I'm working on an interesting "lockdown" project right now, I'm restoring a 70s era M-80 that belonged to my late great uncle. I found in my great aunt's attic collecting about 18 years' worth of dust lol, but after a good cleaning it ended up being in good shape. When I found it, it was just the body with no hardware/parts to be found, except for the original bushings in the post holes for the bridge. Also the finish had been ground off with an orbital sander (yikes 😱). It's been a lot of fun to restore, but hard to find parts for.

Right now it's all assembled, refinished, and ready to go, but I can't find a bridge that will fit the post spacing to save my life because t's such an odd size (78 mm, I can post pictures if needed). Does anyone know where I might be able to find a bridge to fit it? I'm fine with new or used, as long as it's in good shape. This is literally the very last part I need, I even have strings for it! 😂

Hans will have one. Most likely the exact oem.

Find an original, nothing else will do, and even if there was something that would work, I find the original to be one of the coolest parts of the guitar, a great bridge, made by Muller in Germania way back when.

eBay or Reverb is your best bets unless Hans has one. There's a couple guys who routinely part out every guitar they get and sell the parts at sometimes silly prices even. Could take a while though, and there will be competition for the parts.

We need pics ;]]]

If you are located in the US you can also check with Ken Nash in Groton, CT. He has loads of 70ies/80ies parts. Best to call him, his webpage might not always be updated with new parts he got.

Thanks for the info! Here's a pic, the camera on my phone kinda sucks tho haha. I need to install the last few parts and then I'm planning on taking a few nice pics with my camera.

Yeahh it is the wrong truss rod cover 😂 I'm doing this on a tight budget and haven't been able to afford all original parts (I'm still in high school so I'm funding this with birthday and Christmas money from my grandparents). I chose that one bc it was cheaper, so that left me more money to spend on the pickups and other stuff. That shape also covered up a big scratch on that part of the headstock that was totally messing with me 😂

Update: my dad found the right bridge, it was a miracle. I'd been checking Reverb periodically and hadn't found anything, but he was perusing it about a week ago and found THE EXACT BRIDGE I NEEDED that the seller had just posted. It's supposed to arrive today! I've also made a pickguard and the back covers with my granddad. Thanks to everyone on here for all the help, advice, and support, and I'll post pictures after it's done!

That is awesome. Ask and ye shall receive ;]

I have to say now that I'm playing this bridge every day, what a great bridge. So easily adjustable, which is also it's only downfall so far, is that excessive amounts of metal palm chunking will rotate the bass side screws, or even both, I point the screws at 1 and 11 o clock in soft V that lines up with the bridge body at the thumbwheel cutout, it's like a reference point in case it wanders, I can instantly put it back.

Finished product! :) I absolutely love it. Wanted to make it nice but still personal, so there's a couple oddball things about it. My grandpa does woodworking, so he and I made the back covers out of a walnut tree from the "farm" I grew up on. We also made the pickguard out of an old Eagles vinyl that had melted in the sun accidentally. I thought that would be neat because I love old vinyls. Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the help and advice!

I made a nice fruitbowl from a Bread LP I bought at a yardsale that went bad on the seat of the car, doesn't take much.

But take a crappy old LP, put it in the back window of the car on a sunny day, get it hot, hold it with one hand, fold it in with the other, flatten the bottom on the hot trunk lid, let it cool and presto, a Chihuly like steam punk decoration that works well as fruit or key basket, etc.

You find yourself wanting to clean the record, as if it still mattered ;]
