One of my first good acoustics I ever owned as before then I had mostly cheap junk on its last legs. So about 10 years ago I stroll into the pawnshop with the sole intention to buy something that sounded and played good. I remember paying $250 for it then and it was advertised as a 69’ which later on I discovered Country Joe MacDonald played Woodstock with a borrowed FG-150. I thought to myself “could this be the Woodstock guitar?”. All those hopes of finding a historical piece forgotten by the sands of time blew away when I deciphered the serial number dating it to early 1972 so that was the end of that. I learned to fingerpick on this thing and probably wrote a good portion of my material on this guitar. The original bridge had a crack form at the bridge pins so I had a new bridge made for it 3 yearA ago and had the tech undo a botched set up done in the past and it ended up costing me more than I paid for the guitar! But I didn’t have the heart to retire it even though to some it was just a cheap guitar. I decided to retire it as the action was slowly getting higher and bordering on needing a neck reset. Took a good 50 years for it to get to that point so that’s not too bad. Unfortunately I got the run around by a tech who was willing to take on the job of resetting the neck and converting it to a bolt on. At that point I decided perhaps it’s time to put it in retirement until I find someone actually willing to do it. That’s how I then went to hunt for a Guild and ended up with my D-25.

My '69 FG-110 was my first guitar, and getting it required a great deal of parental persuasion (that's her over there on the left). It was my only guitar for more than 35 years and I realize that every time I pick it up and chords just naturally fall into place. When my second guitar (and first Guild - the Tacoma DV-6) arrived, I decided the Yamaha needed the full-on spa treatment. She went off to Pete Brown in Collingswood, NJ for a new bridge (mine also cracked along the bridge pins), new nut and saddle, a tuning machine repair and setup.

Picking up that guitar is like settling in for a conversation with a good friend you've known for almost your entire life - easy, comfortable, and comforting.

Paid 250 for my 73 FG-260 new. It sounds great but needs a neck reset since the old Yamaha 12s are build really light.
