I'm loving this guitar. All original 1972, except for a saddle purchased from Hans in the Netherlands which arrived in less than a week of ordering it. Those roller adjustomatics are neat, but nearly impossible to replace or find parts for. Oh and the knobs are not original, I forgot. Anybody got two Guild knobs? Hansi Wan Kenobi is only hope, but he's out of knobs for this model. I need the chrome lidded Guild logo'd witchhats.

What tone and craftsmanship on this workingman's beauty. I truly LOVE it. I love the feel, the weight, the neck shape, the balance, and the SOUND. Dang. Honestly, are those magic pickups? Thing sounds so good to me that I even feel like I love the Grover statite tuners -- which probably I might not love if they weren't attached to this tone monster.

Somebody tell me I'm crazy, or, that this guitar rules! And truly -- I've had everything from Grosh to Melancon to PRS to Fender CS to Gibson to Hamer to you name it.

Best part? I paid $500. Plus less than twenty for the saddle from Hans.

First off, welcome! Great guitar for your LTG entrance!

Second, you're not crazy - that guitar does rule. Or you are crazy, and that's why you're here. That's why we're all here. ;)

Third, how 'bout some more pics? Close up of those knobs? They didn't all have G-shield knobs.

I'd still have my S-90 if it weren't for my growing S-100 collection (yep, I'm hooked on the HB-1 pickups too). With those sitting around the S-90 got neglected so I passed it off to someone else. But I agree completely, and $500 is a good price. Sweet!

By the way -- I saw a rather inconclusive thread on fitting a case to this guitar. I have an ancient case with it -- but would love it to travel more safely for gigs. Anybody checked out whether or not the SKB 61 sg-style case works or not? That case is billed as also working well with the weirdly assymetrical ESP Viper guitar.

Fatherjones,

Now that's the way to introduce yourself. An S-90 for $500, are you kidding me?! You're right to love that guitar, because I know there are others here who would love it as well, present company included.

Thanks Thunderface, good to break in well with a new community of guitar folk. The story is: the local Raleigh Sam Ash had this guitar on the wall in for almost two years it seems. It was parked on the wall with all the Squiers, lower end Schecters, etc. I.E. the beginner wall. (Of course I've heard pros absolutely slay a Squier or a Schecter and sound great doing it.) Anyway, it was on the low-price wall, we'll say. But it started out near 800 or so. I would play it and check on it regularly, and occasionally ask what their best price was. The guys would never even come close to lowering it more than fifty bucks. But everytime I played it I just loved the feel and tone. Then last week, they had a nice Lindy Fralin amp in the store, and I played it through that. Just pure gracious tone. And I knew she'd like to see my Tweed Bandmaster which has a majestic tone that I adore. I said, "what's your best price -- it's been here almost TWO years." The manager said "499, but no give backs." And I said, "wrap her up." A quick email to Hans for the bridge piece to make her whole -- and a bunch of Maquiar's Number 7 to get the 40 years of gunk and goo off her -- and she's back to the beautiful cherry nitro she started with. Lots of dings and chunks of nitro missing -- but that just makes her better!

Wish I could get a proper case that would snuggle her up good though. Anybody have an idea about that?

I wish I did. Guild cases occasionally pop up on eBay, but they're usually in various states of disrepair. Try to get the exact dimensions and see if a Gator case or SKB case on musiciansfriend.com might work. They always list dimensions on their product listings. Otherwise, I'd suggest that if you have nearby access to a Guitar Center or a guitar shop that has SG cases, see if one of those might fit.

And some of us might have waited a few hours ... or minutes.

Now normally I'm an advocate of simple controls (one volume, one tone), but the S-90 almost looks a little naked without those second volume and tone knobs. Of course, if it had the second knobs, it would be an S-100 (without the headstock and fretboard inlays). Still a VERY cool guitar in my book.

I'm not at all patient about Gear Acquisition I'm afraid. However, nobody ever bought this guitar, and eventually I did. I didn't know I'd dig it as much as I do.

By the way, I went crazy with some Mequiar's No. 7, and brought back a good bit of the original beauty.
