Oh my word.

That's one of those guitars that makes you want to sell EVERYTHING you own and grab it. I'm in Canada too *gulp*.

The price is a high, but having said that if I was really looking for a clean one I would be hocking things left and right because you really will not find a nicer one than that! I am sure it sounds wonderful too. I LOVE the "ice cube" knobs as well!

Wow, it just fetched 8300 USD ! Looks like the price wasn't too ambitious, Walter. I believe the great pictures helped to sell that guitaras well. We better hold on to our old franz-equipped Guilds, though, they are still underrated IMO.

I guess the reality is folks are willing to pay a massive premium for something that is SUPER clean like that nice instrument. That is truly a great looking guitar. The stuff dreams are made of for sure.

Yes, it sure was a beauty, but I get very mixed feelings about it. The guitar looks absolutely wonderful, probably sounds good, etc. But then there's those two Benedetto X-700s just sitting there in the $4,200 range. You've got to know that they are the real top-quality in that list for tone and playability.

Finally, it's a bit ironic that the main reason that guitar is so special is that it was completely neglected by its owner for some 50 years! It would be nice to think that I, too, might get more and more valuable over the next fifty years. In truth, I'm already too old to wait another fifty and I wouldn't care to suffer through such a lengthy period of neglect.

Anyhow, I believe guitars are meant to be played. Hope the new owner can make good music with it daily -- and carefully!

yeah, these "left under the bed" relics are worth a lot of money but somehow one feels intimidated to play them

Man, did I ever! :) parker_knoll is correct in his assertion about "under the bed" guitars and player intimidation... well, in my case anyway. I really enjoyed playing the guitar, and did so quite a bit during my short stint with it but it is true, I was more nervous playing that guitar than say, my 1961 X-175, which compared to the X-550, has quite a bit more wear and tear. Unlike the X-175, the X-550 had a somewhat huge neck on it but it was still quite comfortable to play. While I do think the DeArmonds on the 175 sound better to me, the Franz single coils were quite good and had a very unique sound to them.
