Just caught the second half of "Jazz on a Summer's Day" on TCM.

Up next, 4:15pm ET, "Thelonius Monk: Straight, No Chaser", biography from '88 with clips primarily from '67-'68 period.

Monk was a hugely respected composer, you've probably heard a theme of his somewhere long the line and didn't even know it.

Should be a nice introduction for those who are trying to "understand" jazz, especially the more "atonal" or polytonal stuff.

You've been alerted. ;)

I am 3 hours ahead of you! Just watched some of it, but not the whole thing - other things took my attention. I enjoyed what I saw of it.

Right, why I said "4:15 ET" (it was 1:15 my time). Just realized though, not all carriers of TCM may be showing it on the same schedule, time-wise....

My favorite Monk:

My favorite Monk cover. Andy Summers with Sting on vocals. "Round Midnight".
