So this one’s been around the LTG block a few times, and landed on my doorstep last week. When it came up for sale previously, I was lustfully tempted. When it popped up again, I could no longer resist. This is my first New Hartford Guild, and having been rather Westerly-centric, I now fully understand all the praise regarding NH instruments.
Along with aesthetically pushing all my favorite Guild hot buttons, the overall build quality both on the exterior & interior is beautifully clean & tight, and the adi/maple wood selection speaks for itself. My one little quibble would be that the fret ends could have been dressed a bit smoother, but that’s something I can easily take care of. Otherwise, the only real surprise was to discover while restringing that the bridgeplate is rosewood - apparently having time traveled from a ‘70s Westerly parts bin!
Once restrung with my favorite set, it’s tonally very balanced & exactly what I had hoped it would be - a fingerpicking joy to play. Additionally, the 1-11/16” nut & 12” fingerboard radius are right up my alley. So the bottom line is that happily, this guitar’s wandering days have come to a close, and many thanks to those fine folks who took such good care of it before me! Here are a few pics:
